In 2019, Japan was shaken by a case that transcended national borders and quickly went viral on social networks worldwide. Yuka Takaoka, a young woman with a sweet appearance and aesthetics influenced by anime culture, was arrested for a violent crime against her partner that unleashed a wave of public reactions, social debates and a kind of “admiration” on the internet.
However, it seems that Yuka Takaoka is back, at least on the internet, and it is that in this last time she has dedicated herself to focus on social networks by entering this world by becoming a TikToker, Streamer and Cosplayer. We are going to talk about the latter today and in recent days his name has returned to transcend on the internet because he showed his followers his new passion by presenting his cosplay of Sakuya Izayoi, a character belonging to the Touhou Project franchise.
Yuka Takaoka, the “yandere” who shocked Japan, is back as a cosplayer.
Curiously, those who know Yuka Takaoka’s history have related her cosplay of the character Sakuya Izayoi with her past, since fans of the Touhou Project franchise know perfectly well that Sakuya carries certain knives, a detail that many have interpreted as a personal reference by Yuka Takaoka, leaving their opinions in the comments of the publication of this cosplay.
Recall that Yuka Takaoka’s case went viral in May 2019 after an emergency call to the Tokyo police. When the troops arrived on the scene, they found a young man critically injured and his assailant, Yuka Takaoka, by his side.
The scene was disturbing, as Yuka Takaoka smoked a cigarette while waiting for the authorities to arrive without showing any visible signs of panic, remorse or intent to flee. Leaked images and screenshots of the incident showing her with a serene expression, still bloodied, began to circulate on the internet a few hours later, fueling an unprecedented media phenomenon.
After being arrested, Yuka was formally charged with attempted murder. Despite the seriousness of the crime, the judicial process did not result in a particularly severe sentence. She was sentenced to three and a half years in prison, a figure that many considered low given the circumstances.
One of the determining factors was the victim’s attitude. The young man did not file formal charges against her, and in public statements he expressed that he did not hold a grudge against her, even wishing her a normal life. This decision was widely discussed in forums and digital media, where the man was ironically baptized as “the man who loves the most”, referring to his apparent devotion or understanding towards his aggressor.
Instead of being completely disowned, Yuka Takaoka was turned by the internet into a cult figure, especially among certain niches of the otaku community and users of social networks and internet forums. After serving her sentence, Yuka was released and has maintained some presence in social networks.
