The Yoasobi duo has gained much relevance nowadays not only for their catchy songs that sound among many people in Japan, but also because they have recently ventured into the world of anime, being interpreters of the openings or endings of some very popular series such as Oshi no Ko, Sousou no Frieren and Monogatari. However, although they are quite loved by the general public, with the news of the ending of Monogatari Off & Monster Season that would be performed by the group, some anime fans protested against this internet saying that the duo should not do any more songs for anime.
Otakus think Yoasobi doesn’t make good anime songs
For some time now, the Yoasobi duo has ventured into the world of anime, performing songs for renowned stories, which has helped to increase their fame, their most recent work for a series is the ending of the new anime of Monogatari Series, called Off & Monster Season, which is scheduled to premiere on July 6, 2024. The title of this theme is “UNDEAD” and apparently, this caused a lot of commotion among the otaku community, who expressed their disagreement with the group continuing to perform themes for anime.
One of the main arguments was that although this is a very popular group and with which the Japanese are familiar, their music was not suitable for the stories and people only follow them for fashion. One person commented that he went to a family restaurant that is located in a tourist area and even here he heard some of the anime songs performed by Yoasobi which, apparently, was not to the liking of this anime fan. However, despite these comments, a large number of people defended the duo from the criticism they faced on this occasion.
They started by saying that, precisely, this kind of comments is the reason why people don’t like otaku because they can become very toxic with this kind of issues. Another user on social networks, added, “They are like the anime fans who criticized One Piece for causing a social phenomenon in the Paramount War arc.”, and it is true that, on many occasions, some elements that are presented within the world of anime, cause an impact on the general population, which can be something positive for the otakus or, on the contrary, cause more negative analysis to a group that in itself, is already very judged.
One user responded with something quite interesting saying that many artists have brought him closer to anime these days, which is very positive, since, just as otaku can discover very good music groups because of the anime industry, people who don’t usually watch anime can also get a taste of new stories. So it sounds like a situation where many people can get something good out of Yoasobi’s immersion in the anime community, which can bring together otaku and the general public alike.
In general, the opinion of the people who came to Yoasobi’s defense was that this discussion that was generated recently was quite absurd, since, the logical thing is for a popular group to be present in stories, of the same caliber. Also, people who were just throwing negative comments about this were invited to skip those anime if they were so upset and look for others where the duo was not present, because there are definitely too many anime stories to watch in this world. What is your opinion about YOASOBI performing anime songs? Do you like them or do you think they shouldn’t continue?
