Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is one of the most recent titles in this beloved franchise, now available for PlayStation 4 and Playstation 5, after its previous release on PC and Nintendo Switch. This game introduces touches of turn-based action JRPG with an incredibly polished anime art style and an amazing plot.
What is Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin about?
The incredibly powerful Rathalos are disappearing, and this species begins to migrate in an unknown direction. Simultaneously, strange events occur around the world, affecting the ecosystems where the monsters used to live peacefully and putting the hunters in trouble.
The problem has reached the island of Mahana, our village, protected by the spirit of Red, a world-renowned hero, and the Guardian Ratha. We are the grandson of this great hero and, as Rider, we can tame beasts or “monsties” with which we create a bond throughout the plot.
As the story progresses, we meet a Wyverian girl named Ena, who entrusts us with an egg containing the hatchling of a Rathalos. We will have to overcome numerous challenges to earn the respect of the different communities, whether they are humans, monsters or Wyverians, through friendship, courage and the bonds we create.
A refreshing adventure true to its roots
Although Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin departs somewhat from the original Monster Hunter formula, it is a spin-off that takes certain liberties to offer a new and refreshing experience. However, it remains true to the series’ roots, allowing both veterans and new players to fully enjoy its content. In addition, it is not necessary to have played the previous installment of this spin-off to understand and enjoy the plot of this sequel.
In Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, players will confront monsters of all sizes, a characteristic element of the saga. In addition to exploration, they will have to collect minerals, herbs and bugs in the various quests throughout the story. Upgrading weapons and finding monster eggs are fundamental tasks that will allow you to face greater challenges.
The turn-based combat system in this game is intuitive and dynamic. Although we are Riders and we create bonds with our monsties, we will also face hostile creatures. In these battles, we will fight alongside our mounts and fellow adventurers. Strategy is essential, as each monster has different moves and weaknesses, requiring the use of specific weapons and special abilities to win.
Monsties: The attractive detail of the game
As we advance in the story and fight against different creatures, we will get more rewards and we will be able to unlock new areas. One outstanding feature is the search for monster eggs, which we will be able to hatch to get better creatures.
Each monstie is unique in its type and has abilities that will help us pass certain areas of the different maps in the game. Some swim, others jump, climb, keep away and intimidate the other monsters on the stage and others will help us collect materials. We can interchange between them without any problem, since our main composition will be up to 5 monsties.
In addition, we can consult general information, statistics and other data about the monsters in the Monsterpedia, a kind of pokédex with precise information about each monstie in the game.
Graphics and sound
This time, it seems that we are facing a port with slight improvements, however, its very distinguished art direction makes this video game stand out at all times. It surprises by appearing to be inspired by Pokémon and taking lessons from player reviews to present a title appealing to both fans of the franchise and new players.
On the other hand, the soundtrack is phenomenal from start to finish, presenting musical themes that adapt to all kinds of situations, giving great doses of excitement to Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
Is it worth buying Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin for Playstation?
In summary, this is a robust game with dozens of hours of gameplay guaranteed, ensuring a unique experience of its kind. We recommend acquiring this title for PlayStation 4 and 5, especially if you are a fan of the series.
