Warner Bros. Discovery to create more anime series

Suicide Squad Isekai was announced some time ago by Warner Bros. Discovery, a distributor known in the anime world for bringing a good number of series in recent years, such as the adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. But this type of series does not seem to have an end in the short term, since the company confirmed that in the coming years it will continue to bet on this medium, with the creation of new series or the adaptation of some already available.

Warner Bros. Discovery has been dedicated to launching in recent years a good number of anime series, one of the most anticipated being the anime version of the popular Suicide Squad franchise, called “Suicide Squad Isekai“, which will premiere in July. And now the president of WBD in Asia, James Gibbons, confirmed that this rhythm of launching many series in the year will not only not stop, but they expect to increase considerably the number of releases for the coming years.

In an interview, Gibbons mentioned several important points that anime fans will appreciate, especially the predisposition of Warner Bros. Discovery to bet on the medium, since the company has approved the expansion to produce more than ten series a year, a number that doubles the five they have been publishing. In order to achieve this, the president has full confidence in the company’s Japanese studio, since the quality of the work has left the top positions more than satisfied, especially with titles such as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure or Record of Ragnarok, which is currently available on the Netflix platform.

Another important point made by James Gibbons is how, in addition to using IPs that already exist and converting them to anime series, they saw a lot of potential in adapting several of the characters already available within the DC universe, bringing their worlds to anime, aiming to reach an audience between 18 and 30 years old. Finally, one of the aspects commented by the president of Warner Bros. Discovery in this interview was how the content will be created, although it will be largely Japanese, they also seek to get different IPs from countries like South Korea or China, all this to expand the arrival of the company.

The Japanese studio that is part of Warner Bros. Discovery has been in operation since 2011, and since then they have released a good number of series, exceeding 80, varying greatly among the styles that could be seen over the years. Among the most recognized titles we have the acclaimed adaptation of one of the oldest and most popular manga in the world, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. They would also launch other very important franchises in the medium, such as Record of Ragnarok or even some of recognized superheroes such as Batman Ninja.

But undoubtedly one of the most anticipated productions by fans of both anime and the world of superheroes, or in this case villains, is Suicide Squad Isekai, a strong bet by Warner Bros. Discovery to expand the history of this group that in recent years has delivered films and even a video game. The story will seek to replicate what has been seen in the past: several villains of the Batman saga united to fight crime, but in this case it will have a twist, as they are transported to a fantasy world where dragons, orcs or wizards are present, with the protagonists having the important mission of returning to their universe safe and sound.
