Otakus get excited about School Days reference made in VTuber Legend anime
Recently, the official account of VTuber Legend on Twitter/X (@vden_anime) shared a clip where we see two of the main characters, Awayuki Kokorone and Sei Utsuki where Sei mentions School Days and later, both girls with a cry of displeasure mention “Makoto” protagonist of this anime to which they refer. To end this short clip, a clip of a boat appears, which suggests that it is the “Nice boat” meme that refers to the cancelled broadcast of its last episode.
For those who do not remember what this meme refers to, let’s remember that in September 2007, the final episode of “School Days” was to be aired; however, an unexpected event happened and a 16-year-old girl ended her father’s life in Kyoto. To avoid making a connection between this tragic event and the episode whose nature was somewhat similar, TV Kanagawa decided to cancel the episode and instead aired 30 minutes of scenery videos with the song “Aria for the Sun String” in the background.
Clearly, this generated a lot of negative reactions from fans, but one user on the internet made a curious comment that said “Nice boat” referring to a boat that appears in one of these videos. This event became a meme among School Day fans, particularly those of Japanese origin. So this time, with the mention of an iconic moment from another anime in VTuber Legend, the otaku community remembered the event with a lot of fun, leaving their comments on the post shared on social networks.
In fact, the same official VTuber Legend account when sharing this publication, in the description, wrote this iconic phrase of “Nice Boat” along with the clip mentioned in previous paragraphs. Some of the most popular comments from both franchises regarding this event were “The moment I saw SchoolDays I was screaming in my heart hahaha.” “Of course, I think they got their permission too, but Makoto Makoto is criticized even by other anime.” “This season’s anime is amazing in many ways… Yeah.”
If you still don’t know what VTuber Legend is about, here we follow Yuki Tanaka a twenty year old girl who used to work in a company and now works in Live-On Japan’s top VTubers companies. Here, she has to develop the role of a character named Awayuki Kokorone, a beautiful and well-mannered girl who gives just that kind of content to her fans. Unfortunately, she is not very successful and this is reflected in her low income.
However, her life changes when one night after Yuki thinks her broadcast is over, she starts drinking some beers and somewhat rude jokes while watching Live-On videos, but she doesn’t realize that her followers are listening to everything she is saying and doing at that moment, so these clips of Yuki in this state, suddenly go viral. She thinks it’s the end of her career, but her manager surprises her by revealing that everyone at Live-On had been waiting for Yuki to rebel and start letting loose on the broadcasts.
