The new project, dubbed VR-Kanojo (VR-na Kanojo or VRな彼女), promises to be a significant evolution of its predecessor. With better graphics, greater interactivity and new features, the game seeks to offer an immersive experience that surpasses anything seen so far in the virtual girlfriend simulation genre.

On June 27, Illumination’s official Twitter/X account announced the launch of its new game, VR-Kanojo. This long-awaited title will be available on the SteamVR platform from winter 2024, where players will be able to re-engage in a virtual relationship with Sakura Yūhi, the protagonist of the game, offering an immersive experience in which the interaction with the “waifu” will be deeper and more realistic than in previous versions.

And last August 29, the company revealed in a new post on its Twitter/X that they would be launching a crowdfunding campaign on the Campfire platform starting September 2. The crowdfunding page was finally published and the campaign started at 19:00 on the same day, with the developers inviting followers to bookmark the page to increase its visibility and facilitate its appearance on the Campfire homepage.

Currently, the crowdfunding campaign for the new VR-Kanojo game has achieved overwhelming success. With the support of 434 backers, it surpassed not only its initial goal of two million yen (about US$14,000), but has raised more than 12 million yen (about US$84,000). After meeting all the initial goals, the developers have added a new goal: the inclusion of a maid costume and a rice omelet event, which will be unlocked if the campaign reaches 750% of its original goal, and is that funding is still available.

In addition, the following video was shared, which shows a sneak peak of VR-Kanojo by Illumination and although it shows few gameplay elements, it stands out for the voice of Sakura Yūhi, the protagonist of the game. The expectation is high among fans of virtual reality and relationship simulators, who are eagerly awaiting more details about the development of this new title.

Now we will have to wait for the arrival of new news from the developer studio to know how the project, which with the launch of its crowdfunding has shown that it has a large number of fans around the world willing to support the release of a new “waifus” game. Also, among the expected news, many want to have an estimated release date, which will take a little more time if we take into account that VR-Kanojo is still in an early stage of its development.
