Turok

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is getting an incredible remaster

Maybe this name doesn’t mean much to you these days, but Turok was once one of the biggest first-person shooter franchises in the entire industry. With its strange weapons and intimidating prehistoric enemies, this saga found quite a success on Nintendo 64 and PC, but lost popularity over the years. However, Nightdive Studios managed to revitalize the franchise when it released remasters of the first two installments in 2015 and 2017 respectively. With Shadow of Oblivion being the least popular in the saga, many gamers thought it would be ignored, but today we find out that wasn’t true, as Nightdive Studios has just announced its HD remaster during Gamescom 2023.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion looks better than ever!

Originally released for the Nintendo 64, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion will be remastered for all major modern consoles. This title continues its plot from the end of the previous installment, Seeds of Evil: After the death of the main character, Joshua Fireseed, his siblings Joseph and Danielle must join forces to defeat the titular villain, Oblivion, and his followers, the Flesh Eaters. In the process, they will have to use an arsenal of powerful and crazy weapons to defeat all kinds of humans, dinosaurs and other gory creatures. This is the conclusion to one of the best FPS trilogies in the entire industry.

Obviously, you will be able to control both protagonists (Joseph and Danielle) and the dynamic first-person combat characteristic of the Turok saga will be even faster and more fun in this new title. Nightdive Studios explained that this is a remaster 100% loyal to the original product, and that the changes will be merely aesthetic to make it look and run even better. Thanks to their patented KEX Engine technology (Whose latest version will debut in this title) Nightdive was able to update Shadow of Oblivion to have 4K resolution and run at up to 120 FPS on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series. It’s a real graphical leap that will impress the biggest fans of the original game.

So now you will be able to enjoy this classic game of the Turok saga in a better version. Nightdive boasts other interesting new features that will enhance the experience, such as advanced rendering features, anti-aliasing, dynamic shadows, ambient occlusion, motion blur, remastered environmental art, updated character and weapon models, optional Gyro controls for Nintendo Switch and much more. Of course, the graphics still look similar. After all, this is a remaster, not a remake. Not to mention, that Nintendo 64-era graphical style looks very nostalgic to us today. Good thing they didn’t change them drastically.

Shadow of Oblivion is a perfect closure to one of the best and most entertaining FPS trilogies we’ve ever played. And we are more than happy to know that we will be able to experience this epic story in its entirety, thanks to these 3 amazing remasters brought to us by Nightdive Studios. Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered will be released on November 14 of this year and will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam You can’t miss it!
