Undoubtedly, “Toradora!” is one of those anime that every anime fan remembers fondly, as this work was surely one of the first “romcom” that many of the enthusiasts with more years in the wonderful world of anime could enjoy. Since its premiere in Japan in 2008, almost 16 years have passed and we still find that the story that follows Ryūji Takasu and Taiga Aisaka is still as popular as the first time we saw it.
One of the reasons why it is still so current is none other than Taiga, as this girl was one of those responsible for the “Tsundere” archetype becoming popular in a big way during the first decade of the two thousand years. Through a thread on Reddit, Taiga Aisaka from the anime series “Toradora!“, has once again become the center of an intense debate, as a user has asked the community of anime fans on the social network why they think this “waifu” is so “hated” or considered as “unbearable” by many people. In the extensive thread this user comments that she is one of his favorite characters, because throughout the series she showed a great development and evolution around herself and her feelings for Ryūji.
He also mentions that something very “shocking” to him is that they consider the relationship between Taiga and her classmate to be based on constant abuse towards him, as he has seen this within the same Reddit community and in other forums where they label the girl as careless and unbearable. Finally, he mentions that this is incorrect, as he considers that throughout the series it is shown how their relationship is based on trust and mutual respect and gives as an example when she tries to get away from him, as he considers that she is damaging Ryūji’s image in high school.
Evidently, the reactions to these statements were not long in coming, since many commented that this discussion was already in the past and everyone who claimed that Taiga Aisaka was unbearable was because they had not seen the anime or had simply watched the first episodes. In this same sense, a fan said that this impression that she gave of being an unbearable or violent character was because being a “Tsundere” of the mid-2000s, these characters still did not have well defined that “confused charm” about their feelings and attitudes that today are so characteristic of these girls with this type of personality.
Another sector said that the reason why Taiga was like that in “Toradora!” was because she was only trying to protect herself from being hurt again, since she had already been betrayed twice before. Finally, there were those who flatly stated that she was indeed unbearable and violent and that she had no excuse for being like that with Ryūji, as well as that it was foolish to try to justify her attitudes.
