The popular multiplatform construction game Minecraft celebrates in May 2024, more precisely on the 17th of this month, its 15 years since its launching by the Scandinavian company Mojang Studios of Markus Persson and Jens Bergensten, being that years later the American Microsoft Studios would get it. With all these years in the market, the game has broken several records, becoming one of the most important in the industry today and one that very few games have managed to achieve.
Minecraft and the road it has traveled during its 15 years of life
Minecraft is in its 15th anniversary, and in spite of its long trajectory it is still valid, because it is a videogame for the whole family, in Minecraft we find many challenges, but the main weapon to overcome them is the player’s creativity and his good capacity to find resources where we least expect it. In an almost unique style and playing with blocks, this videogame becomes almost addictive because of its simple gameplay, something that fascinates players who are looking for relaxing and uncomplicated things.
The developers knew how to do a good job with Minecraft although they had to go through a winding road especially in the Alpha and Beta versions of the game in 2009 and 2010, being the first release an exclusive for the Xperia Play hardware on August 16, 2011 with the name “Minecraft Pocket Edition” or MPCE the cost was only 115 Mexican pesos. On October 7 of the same year a version for Android devices was launched and in November a version for iOS users.
Its success was such that before the beginning of 2012, Mojang Studios announced the launch of Minecraft: Java Edition 1.0, although these versions would continue to be mobile versions. By 2012, marketing did not spare Markus Persson, like Jens Bergensten, and the LEGO company was the first to raise its hand to make a partnership with Minecraft and create commemorative toys for the video game that in a couple of years would become much more popular than it already was. In 2013, just over 10 million Minecraft users were registered thanks to the updates that were introduced.
In September 2014, Mojang Studios of Persson and Bergensten which included Minecraft Bedrock was bought by Microsoft for the figure of 2,500 million dollars, the purchase of the company made Markus move away from his company and his project. Bill Gates’ company took only a year to launch a version for Windows 10 users in 2015 being now a success for PC gamers, in that same year at the event “MINECOM” 2015 edition in London, an attendance of 10,000 people from various countries was achieved, this attendance made the MINECOM 2015 took a Guinness World Record.
The console versions of Minecraft would arrive with version 1.2 on Xbox in 2014, later it would arrive in 2017 to Nintendo Switch ceasing to be an “exclusive” of Xbox and would finally arrive to Sony’s platform, PlayStation 4 in 2019 consolidating itself as a multiplatform game, as well as one of the most sold and downloaded games in the world.
Currently, besides being one of the best-selling video games of the times, Minecraft has a feature film announced and 2 alternate video games that have been a success: Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends, if you still do not have the opportunity to play Minecraft currently there are great offers to acquire it in digital and physical formats thanks to its 15th anniversary.
