The iconic “Padoru” and its fabulous origin

The “padoru” is a meme that accompanies this fabulous time of the year and surely you have already seen them as “icons” in different social networks, but here we will introduce its origin and how it has become so popular until today. In 2011 was released in Japan the game “Fate/Extra” a spin-off that belongs to the “Fate/Stay Night” franchise and within the extra content of that release called “Type Moon Ace OMake Theater” we were presented with a series of short films where the characters in “chibi” form starred in different adventures and very funny events.

It was there where the now famous “Padoru” that we know saw the light for the first time. In this we could see Nero Claudius in his “chibi” form in a short video of only 11 seconds where he was seen changing through the school corridors, wearing the classic red and white Christmas costume, singing the famous song: “Hashire sori yo, kaze no you ni, tsukimihara wo padoru padoru~!“, which has become a hit today.

While when these shorts were released their repercussion was not very big and it was not until Christmas and the celebrations of 2017 where thanks to Twitter, Reddit and Facebook this short was picked up again and inevitably went viral where from then until today anime and manga fans celebrate every year with their favorite anime characters in “chibi” form dressed in Christmas costumes which we call “Padoru”, as a curious fact this term is the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of the hooves on the legs of the reindeer that are related to Santa Claus.
