Hello Kitty: Island Adventure is an adorable simulation game based on the iconic Sanrio characters that was released exclusively for Apple Arcade in 2023. But in the recent Nintendo Direct, it was announced that this video game will be ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2025, which caused much commotion among fans of the brand on the internet. However, many could not help but notice a curious detail… Wasn’t this game mentioned in South Park 18 years ago?
Butters will finally be able to play Hello Kitty: Island Adventure
In October 2006, Episode 6 of Season 10 of South Park, the popular adult animated show created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, premiered. Titled “Make Love, Not Warcraft,” this would end up becoming one of the most popular episodes of the series due to its video game theme. It’s hard to believe that there could be any kind of connection between a cartoon as smutty as South Park and a character as adorable as Hello Kitty, but there’s one scene in particular that caught people’s attention, especially after the announcement of the new Island Adventure port.
The main characters gather all the kids at school and force them to create a World of Warcraft account to help them defeat a mysterious player who killed their characters over and over again. But when Butters says he never played World of Warcraft, Cartman asks him what he does all day on the computer, to which the innocent kid replies, “I play Hello Kitty’s Adventure Island.” And yes, in the original English version, Butters says exactly the title Hello Kitty: Island Adventure.
Needless to say, there was no video game titled Hello Kitty: Island Adventure in 2006, and at the time, that was a 100% fictitious name, fabricated by the creators of South Park to use as the punch line of a joke. This new video game was released in 2023 and it is impossible to know if Sanrio was aware of the South Park joke and if they used this title on purpose or not. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the South Park writers include a joke or reference to this prediction in a future episode of the series. Perhaps there will be a scene where we can see Butters playing Island Adventure in the background or something similar.
Hello Kitty: Island Adventure is a fun life simulator similar to Animal Crossing, but starring Sanrio’s lovable characters such as Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, Keroppi, Aggretsuko and many more. Although it was very well received, many people didn’t know of its existence because it was relegated to Apple Arcade, a service that is not used by many. Luckily, this new Nintendo Switch port coming out next year will allow more Nintendo Switch fans to experience this charismatic adventure.
