Although we are currently living one of the best moments for video game adaptations to film and television, everyone has their doubts about the next Minecraft movie, which will be in Live Action. This strange project has been in production for months and we recently got some exciting news about it: Filming has been completed, so its release date is getting closer and closer.
Jason Momoa and Jack Black announce end of Minecraft filming
This news was revealed through Jason Momoa‘s Instagram account, who posted this cute image in which he is accompanied by his co-star Jack Black and the rest of the film’s crew. The text of the photo reads as follows: “We’re finishing Minecraft! Aloha to all my cast and crew. Incredible movie experience, it was one of the greatest moments of my life. We laughed so much. I love this country. New Zealand, you are magical. Mahalo for letting me film here,” confirming that the filming took place mostly in New Zealand. The rest of the post contains several images and videos of Momoa giving gifts to the good people of the country.
Jason Momoa is a successful actor, known for his performances in Aquaman and Game of Thrones. It had been confirmed months ago that he would star in the Minecraft film, but what got fans excited was the announcement that the other lead would be Jack Black. The legendary actor and rocker recently gave an excellent performance as Bowser in the animated Super Mario Bros. movie. According to his statements, he will apparently play Steve himself, so he is sure to steal all our hearts. Momoa and Black are joined by other talented Hollywood stars such as Kate McKinnon, Jemaine Clement, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge and many more.
Another curious fact is that a few days ago some peculiar images of the filming set of the Minecraft movie were also leaked, in which we could see a square tree, identical to the ones we can find inside the game. This caused even more speculation among fans, since, although we already knew that the film was going to be in Live Action, this tree confirmed that they will try to replicate the characteristic square art style of the game. And that’s something that, depending on how it’s executed, can go either very well or very badly.
Many people thought it would be a biopic about the creation of Minecraft (similar to the recent Tetris movie) but this leak confirms that much of the plot will take place within the game’s world. It should be clarified that we still know absolutely nothing about the story of this film. We don’t even know what role Jason Momoa has in it. This is a truly unique project and, due to the enormous popularity of this video game worldwide, we can only hope that it will result in a good product. The Minecraft movie will be released in theaters on April 4, 2025, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they release a trailer in the next few months.
