Although Haikyuu!!! is one of the most beloved spokon within the anime fan community, this year, due to the release of its successful movie in theaters around the world, its popularity rebounded once again. In addition to captivating audiences with its exciting story, this franchise keeps its followers hooked with content on different occasions. This time Haikyuu!!!, surprises its fans with incredible news, on the occasion of Haikyuu!!! Day, a celebration that takes place on August 19 every year in Japan.
The surprises for the Haikyuu! Day left the fans of this franchise excited.
Let’s start by talking, what is Haikyuu Day? This is simply a day in which the staff and fans of this story unite to commemorate the impact it has had on this community. It is celebrated precisely on August 19 because of the reading that this date has in the Japanese language (8/19): The first syllable of the number 8 is pronounced “ha”, the first syllable of the number 1 is pronounced as “i”, and the number 9 is pronounced as “kyuu”, if we pronounce it all in a row its reading would be precisely “Haikyuu”.
Every year, Haruichi Furudate, the mastermind behind Haikyuu makes an illustration alluding to the holiday, thanking the fans for the support given to his story. On this occasion, he gave us an illustration of Shoyo Hinata, protagonist of this series, and Kenma Kozume, who was also the focus of the recent “Battle of the Dumpster” movie, the message Furudate-sensei gave us was “Thank you for all your support for the Battle of the Dumpster”. But this was not all that surprised Haikyuu!!! fans, as this day has been full of news.
The first of these is that there will be a “Battle of the Dumpster” exhibition in Japan starting in December. Here attendees will be able to find original drawings, materials, video exhibits and photographic spaces available. The exhibition will start on December 27th at Matsuya Ginza and will be available at different locations in Japan thereafter. In case you happen to be in the country on those dates, this is definitely something you can’t miss.
The next news is that we finally have more news about the big event that had been previously announced for the tenth anniversary of the Haikyuu!! anime. At the beginning of the year, it was announced that this event would take place next year; however, we had no more information until now. Now, we know that this celebration will be called “Next Step” and will take place on March 3, 2025 at the Ariake Arena, in Tokyo, Japan. As special guests will be Ayumu Murase, who gives voice to Shoyo Hinata and Kaito Ishikawa, who gives voice to Tobio Kageyama, among others, yet to be confirmed.
Also, word is that this is expected to be the biggest Haikyuu!!! event ever. Other gifts we have had from the Haikyuu!!! staff, are commemorative videos on both Shonen Jump magazine’s Youtube channel and ToHo animation’s Youtube channel. Both show us different scenes from both the manga and the anime, as a way to commemorate this story that has won the hearts of millions of people within the anime fan community.
Likewise, the last screening of the movie “The Battle of the Dumpster” was held in theaters in Japan, after six months in theaters. In this event, some of the voice actors were also present and with this they closed a cycle in this franchise. Some other people also celebrated this Haikyuu! Day in their own way, as did Yuji Nishida, a member of the men’s volleyball team, who decided to wear the jersey of Ushijima Wakatoshi, one of the characters of the Haikyuu!!! cast.
