Cosplay is one of the things that fans of anime and video games like the most, a recreational activity that many people love, both those who enjoy seeing the characters in 3D and, of course, the cosplayers, who perform the characterizations. But this time a photograph that went viral has caused a stir in the community by spreading a message that especially threatens the integrity of the girls.
Cosplay in debate due to controversial photography
Recently, a photograph has quickly made the rounds on the internet and has alarmed the fan community when they read the alleged message. This directly impacts the girls who are dedicated to doing this kind of interpretations, and apparently it has been part of a popular event abroad, so many have been taken by surprise.
It turns out that through Twitter/X a photograph was shared that has become a trend, the photo in question was taken at the New York Comic Con, a popular event in the United States in which cosplayers do not hesitate to make an appearance. A girl can be seen wearing a rather revealing cosplay that barely covers her upper body, and is posing next to a sign with an offensive message towards girls who engage in this type of representation.
The alleged message reads: “COSPLAY = FREE S3X0 – All female cosplayers at this year’s New York Comic Con are pr0stitutes. They have been paid for with the price of admission and are free to use. Not all NYCC fans are pr0stitut@s, so be respectful and use the cosplayers just to have s3x0. Thanks and have fun!”.
This is clearly a message inciting attendees to go overboard with the cosplayers, which soon went viral taking some people by surprise, reason why it also made them doubt its authenticity, and after many interactions, reactions and comments, the truth about this controversial matter came to light to clarify everything. The social network Twitter/X already has the option to add text to publications that may be fake, like this one, but even so, it did not just go viral.
What we can say that is true of all this that was put together in a few hours is that the photograph is real, the girl cosplaying does pose next to a poster of the New York Comic Con, but this one has a totally different message that says: “COSPLAY IS NOT CONSENT – Please do not touch anyone. If you want to take a photo with another NYCC fan, ask them first and respect their right to refuse. When you’re at New York Comic Con, be respectful, friendly, calm and kind to others.”
This is obviously a fake post, but one that put many in doubt, which also brought out the worst in those who attend these types of events with the intention of disrespecting and trying to get in over their heads with the girls. We all know that cosplayers attract a lot of attention in this type of events and that their interpretations and outfits sometimes tend to be very revealing, however, some should learn that this is the decision of those who do cosplay and that does not give the public the right to go overboard.
Although after some time of confusion and clarification, the girls have asked for respect to all those who attend the events, as they have had unpleasant experiences with “fans”. Let us know what you think about this controversy in the cosplay world.
