After more than a year of waiting, animation master Hayao Miyazaki surprises us again with his latest film, The Boy and the Heron, which has just been released on Netflix and was one of the most anticipated films of the year. Known for creating some of the most iconic films in animated cinema, such as Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, Miyazaki reaffirms his legacy with this new production that has already captured the attention of fans and critics worldwide.

And in addition to the arrival of The Boy and the Heron on the platform, there is an extra spice, and that is that the film had a strong impact in Latin America, not only because of the great quality that everyone praised, but at the time it became a trend because of a fact involving a Colombian woman. We are referring to Geraldine Fernandez, an alleged cheerleader who claimed to have been part of the creation of the film, even confirming that she worked in the first 30 minutes of the movie.

However, as days went by after the interview that raised suspicions in many, investigations were not long in coming and several things were discovered that made her lie fall apart, such as the fact that only two foreign artists worked on The boy and the heron, none of them being Fernandez. In addition, it came to light that she was not even an animator or illustrator, all her “works” were taken from other Instagram and LinkedIn accounts, so in a few days she had to confirm that she never worked at Studio Ghibli and that everything was a lie.

This film is yet another testament to his immense talent and love for the art of animation, making it clear that although he himself has spoken of retiring, his legacy will continue to impact future generations.

The Netflix release marks an important milestone, as it will allow more people around the world to enjoy this masterpiece, without having to wait for a theatrical release. With detailed animation and a deeply emotional narrative, The Boy and the Heron promises to be another unforgettable work from one of the world’s most beloved animation studios.
