However, everything changes when he ends up sitting next to Shouko Komi, who is known as the ‘queen’ of the school. From then on, his classmates see him as an obstacle to getting the chance to sit next to the most popular girl in the class.
Komi, with her beauty and elegance and long dark hair, is adored by all and enjoys immense popularity, despite her enigmatic personality, but what no one knows is that she suffers from crippling anxiety and a communication disorder that prevents her from sincerely relating to her classmates.
In a moment of solitude in the classroom, a series of events leads Komi to communicate with Tadano by writing on the blackboard, as if in a one-way conversation. Being the first to realise his difficulties in communicating, Tadano picks up the chalk and begins to write as well. Eventually, he discovers that Komi’s goal is to make a hundred friends during her time in high school. Determined to help her, he becomes her first friend and partner in this mission.
Together, they face both funny and poignant situations, trying to overcome the challenges they face as Komi works to overcome her communication difficulties and reach her goal of making one hundred friends. As their friendship grows stronger, they discover that true beauty lies not only in outward appearance, but in the genuine connection and understanding that is established between people.
