Full Metal Panic! is one of the light novel series with more than ten years in publication and that despite all this time, the followers of this story full of science fiction and comedy, remain faithful to its serialization. It seems that it is still far from over, since let’s remember that at the end of the main series a continuation of it was announced, years after the conclusion of the mission and that, apparently, continues to excite readers.
Full Metal Panic! Family on sale this month
A few months ago we shared with you the news of a new series of novels of the franchise. A new adventure where we would see the main characters, Sousuke and Kaname, in a new stage of their lives, after more than 10 years; now as adults and with a family and children to raise. According to the details of these new volumes, the plot focuses on the new mission of a peaceful and familiar life.
The Full Metal Panic! Family novels will be published under the Kadokawa publishing label and, as previously announced, are scheduled for release on January 19, 2024. Being a few days away from its publication, the author Shoji Gatoh, has excitedly shared through his Twitter account that the first volume will be on sale very soon, although with this announcement he also mentioned being the only one to publish his novel with such a short title.
The light novels to be released this month have already been announced, and along with the first volume of Full Metal Panic! Family, there are five others. According to the author’s commentary, he said he felt a little uncomfortable to see that he is the only one still using a short title for his work. Which has generated a small debate of this element within some publication. So Shoji Gatoh himself, has decided to give his opinion on the subject in another publication.
Continuing with the extension of the title of the works and according to his experience in the industry; he mentions that about 15 years ago it was common for the title to be simple, and that even Full Metal Panic! could be considered a long title. He goes on to say that according to this rule from years ago, he has noticed that the most successful works published by the most renowned publishers are those with a short title.
All of the above without forgetting to mention that a work, for having a title of greater or lesser length, is more or less successful than any other. This gave rise to different opinions on the part of Internet users, some mentioning the change that titles have undergone in at least the last decade, others that the short title was prioritized as a strategic part to generate curiosity in readers and some others that a long title is tedious and sometimes unnecessary.
The truth is that, sometimes, it is difficult to remember such a long title that mentions most of the plot of a work and in the end the authors or fans themselves shorten it to be able to locate them. On the other hand, we also have those with short titles that, admittedly, are more popular and easier to remember; knowing that they are highly recognized franchises with many years in the business, such as Full Metal Panic! Family, which we have no doubt will be well received by the public. Tell us, do you think that a simple or extended title influences the popularity of a work?
