One of the most beloved titles of the entire Gamer community is celebrating its birthday, since exactly 25 years ago, the first installment of Super Smash Bros saw the light of day and marked a before and after in the world of video games. Especially in the field of crossovers, giving way to the great collaborations between franchises that we see today. Because of this historic milestone, yesterday, Super Smash Bros got its deserved tribute, being a worldwide trend on X for the whole day.
Happy Birthday, Super Smash Bros celebrates a quarter of a century occupying a well-deserved place in our hearts.
From the minds of Masahiro Sakurai and Satoru Iwata, in conjunction with developer HAL Labs, “Super Smash Bros” was released on January 21, 1999 for the Nintendo 64. Showing us a new and revolutionary concept, as in this before and after in the world of video games, the many worlds of Nintendo, among other popular franchises of the moment, collide and clash in the ultimate battle of strength and skill. Since that great day, this Nintendo franchise has left its mark on millions of gamers around the world, becoming one of the most important and adored franchises.
While this celebration covers its first release, which was in Japan in January 1999, Super Smash Bros did not take long to arrive on this side of the pond and only 3 months after its launch in the Land of the Rising Sun. The evenings of millions of gamers around the world changed radically and now 25 years later we strongly remember the nostalgia, fun and longevity of a franchise that has left a significant mark in the culture of video games.
This 1/4 century of trajectory has been full of new additions of characters to the successors of the first title of the franchise, being the last of these and most current Super Smash Bros Ultimate. This title was released in 2018, having support for up to 8 players simultaneously and a total of 82 characters, being 69 of these selectable from the start and the remaining 12 belonging to DLCS that are left to your choice to buy them or not.
In short, Super Smash Bros was a before and after of the gaming world as we know it today and from Anmo Sugoi we give huge congratulations and thanks for the opportunity to see a fight between Steve/Alex (Minecraft) vs Mario, Princess Peach vs Pyra/Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles) or Ryu vs Kazuya (Tekken). In simple words, fights that would not be possible if it were not for that first crazy step that took place on a date that we must never forget, since a franchise was born that will undoubtedly continue to surprise us even more in the future.
