Street Fighter 6 is one of the most recent fighting games of the great Capcom, which has left everyone speechless with its magnificent graphics, gameplay and story, that more than one fell in love. Until recently, at the end of the year 2023, the company announced that it would carry out a collaboration with one of the most beloved franchises in the world of manga / anime, we are talking about Spy x Family, although apparently it was not what we all expected.
FANS ENRAGED BY STREET FIGHTER 6 AND SPY X FAMILY COLLABORATION
Negative comments about the collaboration started after the release of the trailer for the beginning of the collaboration event that will take place from January 9, 2024 to January 31, 2024, because it presented what many did not expect to see. Since this collaboration will only be for a limited time and it is not a DLC as Capcom has been saying since the announcement.
This made the fans furious, since more than a DLC is just an addition to the customization of existing characters, because they only added cosmetic customization such as hair and clothing for YOR and LOID. Capcom even published the avatar codes so that you don’t get tired of customizing your character.
- Avatar code for Yor Forger: SPY_SF6_YOR
- Avatar code for Loid Forger: SPY_SF6_LOID
On the other hand, the collaboration also adds Spy x Family themed frames, stickers and titles, all to celebrate the release of the Spy x Family manga/anime movie adaptation, titled Spy x Family Code: White, which premiered in Japan on December 22, 2023, but will also hit theaters in US and some countries in 2024.
With this, fans of the game and the manga/anime did not hesitate to leave their harshest comments, criticizing the act that it is only a very simple collaboration and a mockery for those who expected such a collaboration that seems more for a mobile game than for a AAA game, besides being one of the most successful fighting games in recent years. On the other hand, many claim that games like MORTAL KOMBAT have made better collaborations with other franchises, since we have seen that in such a game has added characters of which Warner Bros owns the license, as well as other franchises of which it does not.
As for example in MORTAL KOMBAT 11 we could appreciate the Wason, Terminator, Rambo, Robocot, Spawn, and in the same way it is repeated with the recently MORTAL KOMBAT 1 that added to its list of characters that we never thought to see in some of these games as for example: Omni-Man (from Invincible), Peacemaker (from The Suicide Squad) and Homelander (from The Boys), and not as cosmetics for Johnny Cage or another character, but as playable characters that literally are the originals of their franchises and that came to the world of MORTAL KOMBAT claiming that there are more realms than they think.
Maybe for Capcom it was a way to make things right, but for the fans who never forgive even the slightest downfall, it was very disappointing. Let’s hope and in a next collaboration they don’t do the same thing of just adding cosmetics for both characters and player profiles, but add as DLC directly to the collaboration characters.
On the other hand, many fighting game fans hope that this same collaboration will be brought to TEKKEN 8 and not in the same way as in Street Fighter 6 but in a better way, since it seems that BANDAI NAMCO has the license of SPY x Family, after it was announced that they will release a game this 2024 of the franchise titled SPYxANYA: OPERATION MEMORIES. Let’s hope that if BANDAI is planning to do a collaboration with Spy x Family, they won’t do it in the same way that Street Fighter 6 did.
