Today, with the long-awaited release of the video game “Stellar Blade” on PlayStation 5, fans of gaming and especially of “waifus” will finally be able to enjoy this “hack and slash” title that promises a lot of action and unbridled combat but above all a lot of “ricura” due to the fan service of its protagonist Eve. It is worth remembering that in addition to the hype for this title, there was also an intense debate by many groups and political collectives that harshly criticized the design of the main character.
In this sense, Hyung-Tae Kim, part of the development team of the studio “SHIFT UP CORP” and director of “Stellar Blade” has cleared all doubts about the reason for the slender and attractive design of Eve in the game. Thus putting an end to a controversy, but above all many criticisms that had arisen throughout the development and promotion of the game.
The creators of “Stellar Blade” didn’t want ugly protagonists!
Today, and in the midst of a great controversy, “Stellar Blade” has finally been released on PlayStation 5 consoles and with it the positive reactions from fans as well as the negative ones from a certain group have not been long in coming. In this sense, the statements made by the game’s director Hyung-Tae Kim in an interview for “GamesRadar+” a few months ago have been taken up again, where he mentions why the decision was made to have the “waifu” protagonist with such exuberant attributes and physique, a decision that has earned her an intense “hate” from some sectors of society.
Hyung-Tae Kim mentions that when he plays a title he “sincerely wants to see a protagonist more handsome than him”, because being a video game he does not want to see a character or protagonist physically “normal” or closer to reality, and that he wanted something more “ideal” for his game. He also mentioned that he really thinks that this situation was very important for this entertainment medium (video games), because at the end of the day the title is aimed for an adult audience. So he defends this design of Eve from criticism, commenting that he thinks it’s great that a character can show her charms without affecting the mechanics and narrative of the title.
In the same vein, the director of “Stellar Blade” mentions that they put special emphasis on the waifu’s rear attributes because the player was what “the player was going to see the most during the title”. Finally, Hyung-Tae Kim expresses that “a design like Eve’s has become a brave thing”, due to the many criticisms that this “invisibilized” many women and imposed unrealistic physical expectations on many of them.
“Stellar Blade” immerses us in a world where the earth has been desolated and devastated by strange and very powerful creatures called “Naytibas”. Faced with this situation, the decimated human population on the verge of extinction is forced to flee to a colony in space. Thus we meet Eve, a girl who is part of the “Air Squadron VII” who has been entrusted with the mission of returning to planet Earth to recover it for humanity and free it from the malevolent clutches of these strange creatures.
However, while our protagonist advances in her mission, defeating the “Naytibas” and solving the mysteries that the human civilization has left behind, she will realize that the situation is stranger and more serious than she imagined at the beginning. A title that offers the player the chance to fight against the threat by controlling Eve in frenetic combat scenarios full of action and above all to share an adventure with one of the “waifus” of video games that has caused great sensation in recent years.
