Were we close to seeing a Steins Gate live action?
And the answer is yes, since Chiyomaru Shikura himself, the creator of all the franchises belonging to SCIENCE ADVENTURE and former president of MAGES, through a television program gave information about what could have been with respect to a live-action adaptation of Steins;Gate.
Shikura had been very optimistic about the live-action, because the producer who would have been in charge was someone whose work he admired, he did not name the producer or the studio that would have worked on the live-action adaptation of Steins;Gate. However, during the discussions, the studio stated that they wanted a certain actor to play the protagonist Rintaro Okabe.
Although Shikura already had in his mind the actor who could fit with Okarin’s character, he decided to look further and requested Tomoya Nagase, who he thought could play Okarin. However, the producer replied that they could not get Nagase and that, anyway, the decision on who to choose was not in the hands of the producer. As a result, Shikura decided to reject the offer and therefore the live-action of Steins;Gate never came to fruition.
Synopsis de Steins Gate:
The self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintarou Okabe rents a room in an old and ruined building in Akihabara, where he indulges in his hobby of inventing future “gadgets” with other members of the laboratory: Mayuri Shiina, his childhood friend, and Hashida Itaru , a perverted hacker nicknamed “Daru”. The three spend time playing with their most promising gadget so far, a machine called the “Phone Microwave”, which performs the strange function of transforming bananas into piles of green gel.
Although miraculous in itself, the phenomenon does not provide anything concrete in Okabe’s quest for a scientific breakthrough; that is, until laboratory members are driven into action by a series of mysterious events before stumbling upon an unexpected success: The phone microwave can send emails to the past, altering history flow.
