The remake “Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf” (Ookami to Koushinryou) was one of the anime fans’ most awaited anime and, therefore, its popularity has been increasing as its first season is currently being broadcasted as part of the spring 2024 season. The response to this remake has been quite positive, even surprising the Japanese themselves because of how famous this story is outside Japan, as we told you in this article.
On this occasion, Holo, the protagonist of this story, has become a trend in social networks after the broadcast of the most recent episode of the series. This is because Holo has captivated the hearts of fans for a little dance that many have considered very adorable and that is why many fans of Spice and Wolf are talking about her.
Spice and Wolf’s Holo dance becomes a trend on the internet
This week we had the broadcast of episode 5 of Spice and Wolf where Holo, the main character, performs a little dance where she moves her hands and ears with a very adorable gesture on her face. These movements of just a few seconds were enough to cause a furor with anime fans on the internet who have not stopped talking about how much they like the protagonist of Spice and Wolf and how much they were charmed by this sequence she performed in the last episode we had of this story.
Through Twitter/X there have been several publications regarding this event in the anime. We start with Haino, official illustrator of Spice and Wolf, who made an image to celebrate the broadcast of the fifth episode and thank the public for their continued support. In that image he made a reference to this iconic scene and posted the following message: “Thank you for watching episode 5! Holo’s mystery dance was cute.”
The account @AniNewsAndFacts also shared through this social network a video in which they posted the clip with this Holo dance with the description “We understand why she was everyone’s favorite girl back then” referring to the previous version of the anime made in 2009. And a user of Japanese origin quoted this post saying “She is also famous overseas”. Such was the euphoria Holo caused among Spice and Wolf fans that someone even put this clip as a cover on their smartwatch.
Other people noticed that this probably could have been a message from the goddess, because of the way her ears moved according to the movements of her hands and fingers, but they were so captivated by how adorable she looked that they couldn’t process the information in front of them, so they couldn’t understand it. And something that definitely surprised Japanese fans of Spice and Wolf is that Holo was so famous outside their country, as they shared some reactions such as “Holo’s mysterious dance is loved all over the universe It was really cute!” “Tenderness has nothing to do with national borders. Her humming and movements were cute.”
The new anime adaptation of the light novel “Spice and Wolf” began broadcasting in Japan on April 1 this year. The Passione animation studio is in charge of its production and will have Takeo Takahashi as the chief director, while Hajiri Sanpei will be in charge of directing the anime.
Other staff members involved in the production of the series include Kouji Haneda, who will be in charge of character design and director for the anime’s animation. Kevin Penkin will be in charge of the soundtrack composition.
If you still don’t know what this story is about, here is 25-year-old Craft Lawrence, who is a traveling salesman, so he travels from town to town selling and buying things to make a living. His main goal is to raise enough money so he can open his store and no longer have to travel constantly, as he has been doing for seven years.
One day something strange happens to him and while passing through the city of Pasroe, a girl appears in his car who tells him her name is Holo, who despite looking like a young teenager, is actually a deity of more than 600 years. Her appearance is also strange, as she has the ears and tail of a wolf.
Holo tells Lawrence that she is the goddess of the harvest, who has helped maintain good wheat crops in the town for many years, but now wishes to return to her hometown called Yoitsu, because she thinks the people in Pasroe have already lost faith in her, so she sees no point in continuing to watch over the crops in this town. She makes a deal with Lawrence with which she manages to leave the town and accompany him on his travels where she will help him to obtain benefits thanks to her wisdom.
