Nowadays, more and more people are using AIs, and they have even been used in the world of anime, more precisely in Spice and Wolf and Kaiju No.8. However, their use continues to cause debate in various fields and it is still a matter of debate whether it is correct to use them or not, especially in professional fields. That is why when it is discovered that a company or celebrity has made use of these tools, a great debate is unleashed. On this occasion, the recently released animes are in the eye of the hurricane, as some netizens comment that it is possible that AI has been used to generate their covers.
Anime Spice and Wolf and Kaiju No.8 may have used AI in their artwork
Through Reddit, the user shoyooo, started the conversation with a publication where he said that most likely these two series had made their covers through an AI. He posted links to the images of these anime shared on the official accounts of both Kaiju No.8 and Spice and Wolf. He also added a comment, expressing the following: “Many people have been reporting this in the replies, but surprisingly the tweets are still there after days of being posted. While this is probably not the anime production’s fault, it’s still interesting that by coincidence it happened with two of this season’s most prominent anime.”
A large number of people replied to this user, most agreeing that yes, these arts were most likely artificially generated, calling this disappointing. They also expressed not being surprised, since the anime industry is known for taking advantage of animators, so it was nothing new for them to use tools or methods that do not benefit the people doing this. Furthermore, there were complaints not only of the possibility that AI had been employed, but because they simply found the images ugly and of low quality, especially considering that as mentioned above, that they are two of the most outstanding anime of the season.
Nevertheless, a couple of users gave a rather interesting point of view about Artificial Intelligences, saying that the landscape related to this tool had changed and that the technology had evolved in these last 12 months. Now, employing AI did not immediately mean that there was no human hand behind it and that it only fed on the work taken from other artists without their authorization, rather actually many artists used it as a support to be able to facilitate their work and improve certain aspects.
However, it was remarked that the belief that most people still had about digital tools of this style had already caused problems for artists. There have even been cases where they have to prove that it is their own work, because their style is similar to what is often seen in AI art. He also emphasized the irony that there only seemed to be problems when it came to AI-created images and not when it came to use in other areas as well, for example, in the creation of Reddit forums, when this happened, no one complained or took it into account.
Undoubtedly, this is a topic that is still mostly perceived as something negative, especially when big brands or anime such as Spice and Wolf and Kaiju No.8 make use of AI, usually being singled out for resorting to a simple tactic and that can even be very cheap, when they could allocate resources to hire human labor. On the other hand, it is interesting to see how this method is evolving and, as explained in this article, it does not always have to be seen as something bad, but it can become a great ally even for the artists themselves.
