Sousou no Frieren releases new official artwork honoring Taiwan’s “otaku hero”

There is no doubt that “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” (Sousou no Frieren) is a wonderful story that leaves each and every fan who has had the opportunity to watch it moved. It is also a work that leaves several important lessons, of which, perhaps, the most important is to enjoy the time and experiences of life with our loved ones. In this context we must highlight that each of the characters in the series also brings a small message of value for all fans.

Well this time that message of courage came to Xu Ruixian (許瑞顯) a boy originally from Taiwan who inspired by the hero Himmel bravely faced a dangerous armed attacker in the subway of Taichung in his native country. Action that led him to earn all the recognition of the authorities of his country, fans around the world and the production team of the franchise through the official account of “Sousou no Frieren” in “X” before Twitter.

As our valued readers may know, it was recently made public that last May 21, Xu Ruixian (許瑞顯) a boy fan of anime and video games along with other citizens confronted and disarmed a violent attacker who was trying to stab users in the city subway. During the recognition ceremony that took place this 4th of July in Taiwan, when asked the reasons why he had acted that way, the boy made reference to “Sousou no Frieren” with the famous phrase that Frieren pronounced when Wirbel asks him why he helps people on his way and which is: “If Himmel was here, he would have done the same thing”.

As this news broke on the internet, it quickly went viral and fans within the community dubbed Xu Ruixian as the “otaku hero” and praised his actions. But this was not the only thing, as it turns out that the official account of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” (Sousou no Frieren) on “X” before Twitter made a publication where he made reference to this act in which he published the famous panel where Frieren is seen pronouncing such powerful and iconic phrase on Himmel. Likewise, the post was accompanied with the phrase once again: “If Himmel was here, I would have done the same”.

Evidently, this did not go unnoticed by the fans who follow the official “Sousou no Frieren” account on the platform, with hundreds of comments where fans expressed their excitement for the “otaku hero”. The vast majority of them also praised Xu Ruixian’s act of bravery, mentioning that if they had found themselves in that situation, they might not have reacted the way the boy did,

With certainty we can say that this is one of those stories where some of the themes that are addressed in the anime such as courage, self-improvement, sense of justice, appreciation for life, and companionship; have had a positive impact on a boy who thanks to his actions and those of his companions at that time managed to subdue a violent criminal who may have caused much pain and sadness to several innocent people and families. As well as one more reason not to miss “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” (Sousou no Frieren), ranked by fans on various platforms as the best anime of all time.
