There is no doubt that the anime adaptation of the manga Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) is one of the most popular anime that has gained more transcendence in this 2024. The incredible work that the animation studio MADHOUSE has done with this series was praised by the entire otaku community and the visual experience presented in different moments made the skin of the fans who have been waiting for the anime adaptation of the manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe for a long time.
Considering the enormous repercussion that the anime Sousou no Frieren has gained since its premiere in October 2023 and the completion of its first season in March 2024, it is no surprise that the series is recognized by the community to the point of winning votes both in Japan and in the West and this time, we will talk about a vote that has decorated Sousou no Frieren as the Best Anime of 2024.
Sousou no Frieren anime honored as the Best Anime of 2024
Through its website, the news portal IGN has revealed a new update on this topic and after much debate and repetition, IGN presented the series nominated to compete for the Best Anime of 2024, which had series such as Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries), Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon), Oshi no Ko Season 2 and Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) as the chosen ones.
One thing to mention is that IGN’s voting takes into account anime that have completed their U.S. Season/Part broadcast in 2024. However, it excludes series that premiered in this year, but have not yet completed their broadcast, Dandadan being an example of this.
Despite competing with other series that were also liked by the otaku community, Sousou no Frieren swept these votes with 59.3% of the votes, thus consolidating the anime produced by MADHOUSE as the best anime of this year. With approximately 4,000 users casting their votes, the results were as follows:
- Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End) – 59,3%
- Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon) – 20,8%
- Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) – 7,2%

The anime Sousou no Frieren will have a Second Season
Last September, the anime Sousou no Frieren announced the production of its second season. However, not much information was specified about the premiere date for this new installment of the series.
The anime Sousou no Frieren has the following description: The story plunges us into a fascinating fantasy world, where a group of heroes have triumphed in their epic battle against the demon king. However, instead of celebrating a glorious victory, the series presents us with the melancholy return of these heroes to their home and how they face the inevitable farewells.
Among them is Frieren, an elven wizard who, due to the nature of his species, witnesses the aging and death of his fellow travelers in a slow and heartbreaking manner. The plot takes an unexpected turn when Heiter, the priest of the group, before passing away, entrusts Frieren with the responsibility of caring for a young human apprentice named Fern. Together they embark on a journey in search of magical knowledge, without a clear destination, but with a profound purpose: to allow Frieren to overcome his regrets and find a way to honor the memory of his departed comrades.
As they travel through the places they once visited as heroes, the play tells a moving story of friendship, time and missed opportunities in a world where magic and emotion are unforgettably intertwined.
