Snowbreak: Containment Zone

Snowbreak: Containment Zone voice actors leave the project because of fanservice

Snowbreak: Containment Zone is one of the many free-to-play action video games with gacha elements and huge collections of waifus on the market. Developed and distributed by Amazing Seasun Games, this shooter game has been very well received, especially because it caught the attention of a particular audience. However, it has now been exposed to a curious controversy regarding its English voice actors.

Does Snowbreak: Containment Zone contain too much fanservice?

As posted by the Twitter account @BellowDGaming, it appears that images of the official Snowbreak: Containment Zone Discord server were leaked, where a statement from the developers reads as follows: “Regarding any questions about the future of the game’s English dubbing, Seasun attempted to contact the voice actors to restore the English voice lines due to the huge improvement in SCZ. However, they refused because the game has changed its direction towards “fanservice“. So, for the time being, there are no plans to bring back the English dubbing. Thank you for understanding.”

This news was rather strange, because Snowbreak: Containment Zone is a title that has always worn its propensity for “waifus” very proudly. Not to mention that it was predictable that they were going to start releasing more and more racy content as the game accumulated success, as something similar happened with Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. It’s also important to note that while SCZ is obviously full of scantily clad girls, it doesn’t have as much racy content as other exponents of the genre. Compared to other games, this one turns out to be surprisingly reserved.

But it would be extremely unfair to judge the voice actors who turned down this proposal because it is impossible to know what really happened behind the scenes. If they had joined Snowbreak: Containment Zone to record combat lines, it is completely understandable that they would feel uncomfortable about having to record explicit voice lines for “racy” moments, especially if it is something they never gave their consent for (Which must happen with female voice actresses) We also cannot know if this was the only reason they dropped out of the project or if it is just one of several reasons altogether.

On the other hand, the reactions from the community have been quite divisive. Some empathized with these voice actors, especially if they had not been specified that they were going to have to record racy content. But many others criticized them, claiming that they are unprofessional or that even their absence is not going to be noticed, as the vast majority of Snowbreak: Containment Zone players play with the Japanese dub. Many people have noticed that there is a huge community of H-content actors and actresses all over the internet, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Amazing Seasun Games contacts some of them to continue with the English dubbing of their game.

What do you think about this, do you think the voice actors from Snowbreak: Containment Zone were right not to return, or are they acting unprofessionally?
