4 titles that went through Shonen Jump and didn’t end well
The most recent case was for Angou Gakuen no Iroha, also called Cipher Academy (1st image). It was the giant in the medium of manga publishing, Shonen Jump that published the final chapter of this work on February 5, 2024. It should be noted that the publisher will release a sixth volume of the manga in March 2024, and even a seventh volume with which we will officially say goodbye to this manga next May 2024. This work is nothing more and nothing less than the author of the “Monotogari” franchise, undoubtedly a very different project both in content and results.
The second work that we will touch in this note is Ichinose-ke no Taizai known in English as The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins (2nd image), a captivating, but bittersweet manga about the daily life of this family that brought us its last chapter with which we said goodbye last November 6, 2023. Shueshia published the 5th volume of this work on December 4 and will end with the 6th volume in March 2024. This is the farewell for a work with a great Japanese narrative thanks to its author, Taizan 5, winner of the Manga Kingdom Tottori Award at the 51st Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in May 2022.
Ichigooki Soujuu Chuu, or Ichigoki’s Under Control, is a manga that ran from 2022 to 2023 in Shonen Jump. The story follows Ichigooki, an ordinary boy who became a cyborg due to an accident, together with his childhood friend live adventures of comedy and action. The series had a brief publication period in Shonen Jump, from November 28, 2022 to April 17, 2023. It consists of 2 volumes with 19 chapters in total. In theory this work could be said to be forgotten, as no official cancellation has been announced, simply Shounen Jump stopped paying attention to it and left this story in the past.
Enoshima Daisuke, author of Jinzou Ningen 100 or known as Fabricant 100 (4th image), is responsible for creating this manga, a project that was originally a one-shot in Shonen Jump, that is, a one-chapter manga. This one-shot opened the doors for Enoshima to start serializing his work, unfortunately it is another manga whose story does not have an ending, but was cancelled, but its intriguing story about “the perfect human” is well worth a look.
