Since the release of the hit action-adventure “whimsical” game Stellar Blade, developer Shift-Up has earned its place on consoles by becoming one of the top-rated games on PS5. However, it recently became known that, due to its earnings, it has taken a big leap to crown itself as a top studio in South Korea and to rub shoulders with other major companies in a good position internationally.
Shift-Up, creator of Stellar Blade generates extraordinary profits
As shown in this chart shared from the Bloomberg portal, the company behind hit games such as Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke jumped 18% on its first day of trading in South Korea after the IPO (initial public offering), about $320 million, the highest in the country for a video game firm in at least three years. Shift-Up’s IPO is the second largest in South Korea this year, behind HD Hyundai Marine Solution Co.’s $553 million offering in the second quarter.
This is a highly remarkable and impressive achievement, as video game development company Shift-Up, to date, has only two popular flagship franchises – Stellar Blade and Nikke. Another company that achieved something similar was Krafton, responsible for major games such as PUBG or Tera.
In the social network of X user Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Japan’s game industry consultancy, Kantan Games, shares a post in which he comments that practically this company is now worth the same as the large corporation of Koei Tecmo. This is known for being responsible for famous and well-known games such as Atelier Ryza, Persona 5, Fire Emblem or Ninja Gaiden among many others.
So it is valid to emphasize how Shift-Up has established itself strongly in the national and international video game market in a very short time and it is likely that in the future this studio will break other financial records and add to his personal resume with more deliveries that can easily become real blockbusters of global stature.
For those who do not know, Stellar Blade is an action-adventure video game launched by the company Shift-Up in conjunction with Sony Interactive Entertainment on April 26, 2024, initially and exclusively for the PlayStation® 5 console. In this game we will meet EVE, a member of Air Squadron VII, who arrives on a desolate planet Earth with the mission to save humanity and recover all the territory that is in the hands of the Naytibas. For this, the protagonist allies herself with the city of Xion and the members of the resistance to create a peaceful world.
