After a decade of adventures, thrills and unforgettable characters, the Seishun Buta Yarou (Rascal Does Not Dream) light novels have come to their long-awaited end. What began as a story that explored the mysteries of adolescence with a touch of the supernatural, has kept its readers captivated for more than ten years. Now, with the final volume in the hands of fans, it is time to say goodbye to this series that blended humor, romance and drama in a unique way.
Seishun Buta Yarou concludes its story after more than a decade
The Seishun Buta Yarou (Rascal Does Not Dream) youth series finally reaches its conclusion, as the long-awaited 15th volume was released today, marking the closure of one of the most beloved sagas in the Japanese light novel world. Written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Mizoguchi Keiji, this work has been a benchmark in its genre since its April 2014 debut under KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Bunko imprint, affectionately known as Aobuta, the series has captivated readers with its mix of comedy, romance and the supernatural.
The popular light novel series came to an end with the release of volume 15 titled The scoundrel does not dream of a dear friend. As expected, many fans have expressed their opinion about this fact, and Seishun Buta Yarou is one of the most important franchises that we can find today, so opinions were divided: from those who are happy to know how will be the end of the work, to those who are sadder because their most beloved work will reach a new denouement.
Throughout its decade of publication, Seishun Buta Yarou has released 15 volumes that, as of April 2024, have surpassed 3 million copies in circulation. The series has also gained recognition in literary rankings, achieving 5th place in the paperback category of the 2020 edition. With its ending now in the hands of fans, Aobuta’s legacy promises to remain in the hearts of those who followed the adventures of its endearing characters.
The story has a mix of romance, drama and supernatural elements, and centers on Sakuta Azusagawa, a high school student who begins to encounter girls suffering from “puberty syndrome,” a strange phenomenon that affects young people based on their emotions and inner traumas.
In this final installment, Sakuta Azusagawa faces the ultimate “puberty syndrome” while Miori discovers the truth about Touko Kirishima, leading Sakuta to make a crucial decision. In addition, fans will be able to enjoy the special edition with a dramatic CD, as well as exclusive sets with paid benefits, available now at the Kadokawa store.
As a reminder, the premiere of a new season is already confirmed and fans couldn’t be more excited. The anime’s long-awaited sequel, which will cover the University Student Arc arc, already has a confirmed premiere date of 2025. After the initial announcement in December 2023, fans have been eager for more details, and it has finally been revealed that this new project will be in TV series format. Although KADOKAWA has not yet given any more information about the plot or the team behind the production, this announcement has ignited excitement in the fan community.
