There is no doubt that many of us here are fans of the mythical SCOTT PILGRIM, one of the best graphic novels with one of the most ridiculously awesome stories, referencing the world of video games and mixing it with everyday things in life.
This all started since the announcement was made that SCOTT PILGRIM’s graphic novels would be returning, not for a movie sequel, but for an animated adaptation by Netflix. The funny thing is that Netflix published the teasers and promotional teasers on the brand’s dedicated anime channels. So many began to discuss whether or not it was an anime adaptation, although at the moment the thing was a little mild.
SCOTT PILGRIM FANS REVIVE CONTROVERSY OVER WHETHER IT CAN BE CONSIDERED AN ANIME OR NOT
Time passed and the discussions stopped, or so we thought, since a few days ago began the New York Comic Con, a convention that takes place every year in New York, as well as the one in San Diego. Being a big event, many companies from video games, movies, toys and series would be present and Netflix was one of them.
So much was the excitement of this event that Netflix presented many things about the new Scott Pilgrim, including the opening that we will see in this new series, which the creators commented that it is not a copy of the graphic novel, much less of the movie. This made many fans to appreciate the opening, which was leaked in all social networks, revived the controversy, but now much stronger that if this new installment was an anime or not.
Many claim that it is indeed an anime for the following reasons, the animation studio in charge of this series is Japanese and is called Science Saru, of course this studio does not have much travel, since there are no renowned series under its curriculum, but it seems to do the job well. Another point is that Netflix was the one who said that it was an anime, even put the first ad in their channels dedicated to anime. Finally and very obvious is the opening, which is performed by a Japanese singer named Asahi, which sounds very epic.
While the other part of the controversy that opposes to recognize that it is an anime series, they claim that by not having an animation to which we are accustomed, they do not accept that if it is one, since they say that the animation is faithful to the character design of the graphic novel. Another of their points that it is not an anime is that the well-known MYANIMELIST database did not add this series to its catalog. Unlike the part that alleges that it is an anime, the part that does not accept, they have no more proof that it is not one.
But everyone can take it as they want, since the one who has the last word to handle it as they want is nothing more and nothing less than Netflix, since they are the ones in charge of this adaptation and they are the ones who have the copyright at the moment. Besides the fact that they have handled it as an anime series from the beginning. That said, get your popcorn and sodas ready, as we are just a few days away from its release.
