This process began on March 6, 2024, however, its closure will not be immediate, this is expected to take several months. It was Variety who announced that Jordan Levi, general manager of Roster Teeth, through an internal statement reported on the closure of the company’s operations, in that statement commented that this unfortunate decision was taken due to “the challenges to cope with digital media, resulting from fundamental changes in consumer behavior and monetization platforms, advertising and sponsorships. Likewise, he notified what would be happening with some of the company’s products, for example, The Roost podcast network, will remain active until Warner Bros. Discovery evaluates external interest in acquiring this asset.

There is other content under the Rooster Teeth brand in development by Warner Bros. Discovery that will be continued, including a film to be released under the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment label. Options are also being explored for Rooster Teeth’s catalog and intellectual property, which contains such popular titles as Red vs. Blue, RWBY and Gen: LOCK. The company had previously sought other means to avoid making this decision, but it was not possible, so there was no alternative but to terminate operations.

The closure of Rooster Teeth’s operations will mean the layoff of more than 150 full-time employees and will halt the work of dozens of contract and content creators as well. In the notice issued by the company, Jordan Levi also commented “Our legacy is not just a collection of content, but a history of pixels etched into our screens, minds and hearts.” Rooster Teeth celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023 with the launch of new logos and a new tagline “Just Playing”. The company generated a loyal community and became a destination where users searched for videos before the popular YouTube platform.

Rooster Teeth’s first viral video was accompanied by the debut of “Red vs. Blue”. This situation is a clear example that popularity is not the same as being profitable, since despite the fact that Rooster Teeth’s titles were known among users, poor financial results led them to conclude their operations. As this is a gradual process, we expect to have news about the future of the organization’s titles that remain active in the coming months.
