Once again, the beautiful Rias Gremory from the High School DxD franchise is back in the spotlight, as the anime adaptation of the light novel VTuber nanda ga Haishin Kiriwasuretara Densetsu ni Natteta (VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream) features a cameo by this waifu so beloved by the otaku community.
With the premiere of the most recent episode of the anime VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream, fans were thrilled by the cameo of a particularly fondly remembered waifu, Rias Gremory, the most attractive demon student of High School DxD.
Rias Gremory’s cameo in VTuber Legend thrills fans
VTuber Legend’s official Japanese Twitter/X account has shared a hilarious clip from its latest episode, specifically the fourth. In it, the plot centers on VTuber streamer Awayuki Kokorone watching the live streams of her fellow VTers as she recovers from a brutal physical workout after playing a Ring Fit Adventure video game parody. In one of these, Hareru Asagiri is found raging over an anime-themed collectible card game.
In the clip the focus is on VTuber Hareru, who is playing a digital version of the card title that in real life is known as Weiß Schwarz. During the game we see original cards from the game, a clear example of that being Haruna’s use of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Although Hareru-senpai tries to defeat her opponent with a good strategy, she is overwhelmed by this special summoning in which the beautiful Rias Gremory is brought in to eliminate her life points in a comical and suggestive way.
Poor Hareru, who has been trying to keep her “Kayfabe” innocent (acting by focusing on her VTuber persona), for a moment completely loses her composure and goes out of character. Through it all, and to her online viewers, she still looks sweet and innocent through her static Live2D model of VTuber, despite being physically enraged and with angry outbursts on the other side of the screen so she usually disguises or finds funny ways to evade such situations to maintain her role.
The post on VTuber Legend’s official account has delighted most fans who watched with surprise and nostalgia as one of the most iconic waifus of her time reappeared. Some comments: “I would love to play it, it looks interesting”; “I miss you Rias Gremory”; “I never thought the day would come when I could adore Director Rias in the Reiwa era”; “I’m glad to see this girl again”.
For those who don’t know, VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream, is a Japanese light novel series written by Nana Nanato and illustrated by Siokazunoko originally released in 2020 on websites such as Hameln and Kakuyomu. The following year it was published under Fujimi’s Fantasia Bunko imprint with subsequent adaptations to manga in 2022 and to anime this year by renowned animation studio TNK.
While often featuring parodies of real-life brands such as the YouTube-inspired video service or the Live-On agency, which is loosely based on Hololive Production, the comedy series also features actual video games such as Sausage Legend and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. Before the High School DxD scene, Awayuki sees another vtuber about to play the School Days visual novel and gets emotional with her over the series’ infamous ending, which ends with a reference to the anime’s “Nice boat.”
