“Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World” (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) a story that at the time caused much excitement among fans for the twist of mystery and suspense it offered, but as we will see below its second season seems to be that it was not to the liking of many. Recently on Reddit a publication has opened a new debate among users of the platform, as it has been put to discuss and analyze what are the sequels or second seasons of anime that have been “disappointing”.
#1 – Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World
The first season of “Re:Zero” was a hit, with an interesting story, mystery and suspense, very charismatic waifus and a great ending. But the second season for the fans was the opposite, since in the post they described it as very slow, with lapses where the characters were “embarrassing” and they called it simply boring.
#2 – The Promised Neverland
“The Promised Neverland” (Yakusaku no Neverland) was also one of the most mentioned by the fans, this one was simply categorized as a “total disaster“. Fans pointed out that the fact that they skipped important parts of the manga, made the series at some points made no sense at all, where the most affected were the characters, as these parts that were omitted were fundamental for their development in the story.
#3 – Tokyo Ghoul
“Tokyo Ghoul √A” the second season of the show of the same name, was not spared from fan criticism. This sequel was described as simply “disappointing” and the studio was blamed for its decline, arguing that it deviated completely from the manga, took too many creative liberties and ignored the author’s recommendations.
#4 – Berserk
The case of “Berserk” was very peculiar, as fans did not consider it as a sequel per se, but they did not miss the opportunity to criticize the poor quality of the adaptation of a work that they consider as one of the best in the manga industry. Although others did point to the 2016 adaptation in particular.
#5 – Code Geass
Like Re:Zero, the second season of “Code Geass – Lelouch of the Rebellion R2” was said by some fans to start well, but as the episodes went on they described it as slow and with some things that made little sense to them. Finally, they stressed that although it closed in a great way, it was not exempt from being “disappointing” in its development.
#6 – DanMachi
“DanMachi” (Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka) was one of the series that particularly didn’t do well in the comments of this post, as fans said that all its seasons were “bad“. But there were some fans who said that although at first you might find it boring, if you watch it without expectations, at the end it might leave you with a good feeling.
Undoubtedly the fact that an anime has a continuation is a great achievement, since many do not make it past their first season, as is the case of “Game No Life” and others where their fandom has been asking for years for a continuation without any response. But sometimes this can play against you if it is not properly executed by the studio, as in the case of “Re:Zero” where the first season was a success and the second one slowed down.
