God Of War

Review: God Of War Ragnarok for PC

God of War Ragnarök is one of PlayStation’s masterpieces, which is a direct sequel to 2018’s God of War and released on Steam on September 19, 2024. This epic adventure continues the journey of Kratos and Atreus as they navigate unknown places, avoiding imminent destruction at the hands of a very powerful Norse god.

God Of War Ragnarok is epic

The story of God Of War Ragnarök is overly epic and you don’t need to have played the first game previously to get the plot, although it obviously helps a lot to keep track of the story, as this game picks up right where the prequel left off which in this case is 2018’s God Of War. If you’re just starting out, there’s a quick cinematic recap of the events of God Of War from the main menu. Kratos, the ruthless god of war, is now a more complex and relatable character, struggling with his past and his role as a father, on the other hand, we have Atreus, who is growing up and no longer has the squeaky voice.

The character models are incredibly realistic and the animations are fluid and fluid. It’s crazy to see how much the character has evolved over the years. The cinematic presentation of the game is top notch, with stunning cutscenes that integrate seamlessly with the gameplay. God of War Ragnarök’s gameplay is a perfect combination of action, exploration and puzzle solving. Having played 2018’s God of War on PC, I was eager to see how a PS5 game felt like this on PC, and thankfully, the transition was more than seamless.

God Of War

Kratos’ arsenal of weapons, which includes the Leviathan axe and the Swords of Chaos, are incredibly satisfying to use and easy to switch between. Atreus also plays a more active role in battles, providing support with his bow and unique abilities. The game encourages strategic gameplay, with enemies possessing unique attack patterns and weaknesses that must be exploited.

Puzzles are cleverly designed and often require the use of Kratos’ and Atreus’ skills to solve. There are plenty of crafting materials to be found in hidden chests and passageways. Finally, you come across some dwarves who help you craft and upgrade items. The addition of new abilities and equipment options for both Kratos and Atreus provides plenty of customization options, as well as stat bonuses to complement your play style. While I stuck with the two main weapons, you can also upgrade the shield and armor segments of both characters.

God Of War

The game’s graphics are simply stunning and rarely drop below 60 FPS on the PC where the review was conducted, the gameplay feels great with the mouse/keyboard, no need to alter any default settings, but still if you have a PS5 controller feel free to connect it to your PC for a greater experience.

From the towering snow-capped mountains of Midgard to the ethereal realms of Asgard, each environment is meticulously crafted in stunning detail. The open world of Ragnarök is full of secrets, challenges and opportunities to explore. From hidden treasure chests to challenging side quests, there is always something new to discover. The game world design is incredibly immersive, and each region has its own unique atmosphere and challenges.

God Of War

Overall, God of War Ragnarök for PC is a masterpiece that continues the epic journey of Kratos and Atreus. With its captivating story, engaging gameplay, stunning graphics and incredible character portrayals, it’s a game you shouldn’t miss. In case you were wondering we had no problems playing it on PC, but we do recommend that you have something powerful, as we tested it with an RTX4060 and a Ryzen 7 5600x.
