Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer is a really nice way to exercise and quite well thought out by Nintendo, as long as you have confidence in your ability to not hurt yourself when punching the air. In our case that we are people who live 24 hours in front of a screen, this game is undoubtedly super cool, since it is an awesome way to exercise, but the main thing that any method of exercise should have is that it is fun.

One thing I adore is the immediate feedback though, and while some of the voice options in Fitness Boxing 3 can feel a little robotic, the mix of noises, haptic noises and your incredibly happy personal trainer telling you how great you are means that every workout feels really good. I’d still love to see amped-up versions of classic Nintendo tracks instead of the generic dance songs that are present here, but maybe that’s just because I think F-Zero’s music is already sweat-worthy.

Each workout in Fitness Boxing 3 gives you a time up front along with the moves you’ll perform during it and an approximate calorie burn you’ll get from it. There are a few new modes here, including Mitt Drills and Sit Fit Boxing, which is great for accessibility, but for most people, most days you’ll perform the daily workout that the game sets up for you once you’ve entered your goals and body stats.

This is a great way to eliminate the hassle of starting the game and worrying about what you should be doing, and being able to choose between a 20, 30 or 40 minute version of your daily workout is a wonder for anyone who has a time limit, which is probably the case for you.

However, what I really like is that during workouts, and sometimes after workouts, your personal trainer will suggest switching to a slightly harder workout or a short high-speed workout to really get you sweating. I’m actually a qualified personal trainer and this is something I do often, so it’s incredibly fun to be on the other side. It’s just a good way to get you to do a little bit more when you’re already doing something, and it’s really very effective.

In addition to the intense workouts, you can also customize a lot of things throughout the game, such as hair color, eye color, and personal trainer clothing. This is great if you need a specific version of a person telling you what to do. We’re not judging you, and neither is the game, as you can engage in a sort of relationship with the trainers to unlock special types of training.

Then you have a bunch of stats to track and scores to beat as well, which is another good incentive if you’re driven by feedback; you probably are if you’re considering Fitness Boxing 3 as a way to train. If you’re someone who works from almost and spends it in front of a computer screen all day and don’t have time to get out and exercise, it’s certainly an awesome alternative.
