The recent episode 10 of the third season of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re: Zero – Starting Life in Another World), aired on 12 February 2025, has surprised fans not only for its impressive animation and storytelling, but also for the time it took to produce. Yasuaki Fujii, director and storyboarder of the episode, revealed that the development process took approximately a year and a half, a fact that has generated surprise and admiration among fans of the series, as few episodes in the anime industry require such a long development time.
A Re:Zero episode that took more than a year to complete
The long-awaited episode 10 of the third season of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu has generated a lot of excitement among anime fans, not only for its spectacular setting, but also for the revelation of its extensive production process. In a post on the day the episode aired, director Yasuaki Fujii, who was in charge of storyboarding and directing the episode, shared details about the effort behind the episode on his Twitter/X account.
In his post, he said the following: The third season of Re:Zero (Counter Offensive Arc), Episode 10, aired today. I have been participating in storyboarding and directing. The production period, from storyboarding to completion, was about a year and a half – it was long,’ Yasuaki Fujii wrote in his post, noting that the episode is packed with intense battles and high-quality animation, encouraging fans not to miss it.
WHITE FOX, the animation studio behind Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu, has demonstrated its commitment to quality by choosing to split the third season into two eight-episode blocks, with a two-month gap between them. This approach allowed for the time needed to ensure that the animation was of a high standard, something that has been reflected in the positive reception of episode 10 of its third season, and it has been reported that the animation team worked hard on the choreography of the battle scenes, ensuring that every movement was fluid and detailed.
The visual effects and art direction have also been a talking point in Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu, cementing this episode as one of the highlights of the season. In addition, the hard work of the production team was reflected not only in the animation, but also in the soundtrack and voice acting, with the seiyuus‘ performances adding an extra layer of emotion to key scenes, while the orchestral music heightened the tension in the most shocking moments.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu, is an anime series based on the light novels of the same title, written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichirou Otsuka. The third season was announced during the AnimeJapan 2023 event, the animation is by White Fox studio, under the direction of Masahiro Shinohara, while Haruka Sagawa is in charge of character design, for this third season.
The third season of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu is divided into two parts, with the first part, consisting of eight episodes, premiering on 2 October 2024 on Tokyo MX, AT-X and other channels, and featuring a special 90-minute first episode. The second part, also eight episodes long, premiered on February 5, 2025, continuing the exciting story of Subaru and company.
