With the expected premiere of Ranma 1/2, fans have found different ways to make comparisons of this Netflix adaptation with the older one made by Studio DEEN. In addition to everything seen in the manga, specifically a certain panel/moment of its first chapter was taken as a reference, in which Ranma is in his female form in the Tendou family baths and where we can see the impressive advancement of the generations in three different places.
The difference and evolution of these 3 panels of Ranma 1/2
This Saturday the first episode of the remake of Ranma 1/2 was released by the renowned studio Mappa and fans have dedicated themselves to make a peculiar comparison between the three generations of the title, from its manga, its first adaptation in the late 80’s, to the current one. Between the 3 generations of the title, from its manga, its first adaptation at the end of the 80’s, to the current one, what differences can we notice in these three, for that the fragment of Ranma woman taking a bath in the Tendou’s house was taken.
In the panel of Ranma 1/2 of Rumiko Takahashi’s manga we can see the strokes of her first works, while she is taking a bath we can see that in those times she used to worry very little about hiding the details in the front area in her manga, since the series were juvenile and it is the Japan of before the XXI century. The DEEN studio’s adaptation, on the other hand, shows us a red-haired girl and, in this adaptation, the original scenes with a certain “ecchi” were not censored. While Rumiko did not do this genre, she liked to make moments such as public baths or scenes of the nature, the work never focused on it, but it is a special touch.
Now, with Mappa’s work we see that they have faithfully adapted the design of female Ranma (Ranko), who has pink hair and slightly omitted/censored scenes to concentrate on enhancing the romance of the work. This latest Mappa panel is a quality splurge, it’s also the gap of years between one and the other. Do you feel it’s been a good evolution? In the days that have passed we have seen many things of Ranma 1/2, very recently the series was criticized by the censorship that we have commented, something that we describe in this note of our page.
The evolution of Ranma 1/2 and the differences between its phases, is very reminiscent of another of Rumiko’s works that has also received a high quality adaptation, Urusei Yatsura, which also had its adaptation in the 80s. These works are more youthful than series like Mao or Inuyasha by Rumiko herself, so they have more spicy scenes that in their adaptations have been diminished, since the current Rumiko and her manga have a different direction from her younger years.
Knowing the differences in the times of Ranma 1/2, let’s briefly review its story. It tells of the Tendou family, whose father, Mr. Soun Tendou, is waiting for his best friend, Genma Saotome, who has promised to marry his only son to one of Soun’s daughters in order to preserve the martial arts dojo and give a future to this mythical school. On the day expected by the Tendou family, a giant panda and a red-haired girl who introduces herself as Ranma arrive at their home, but is she a girl and not a boy?
The story of this poor boy lover of martial arts, who thanks to his father was cursed by the magical waters of Jusenkyou in China. Now every time he touches warm water he becomes a girl and to become a boy again he must touch hot water. In addition, he must marry in a marriage arranged by his parents to a girl with whom he does not get along. Akane Tendou, the youngest daughter, who is a skilled fighter, the only problem, Akane hates men and her first impression with Ranma is not the best. Can this romance develop with so much chaos around?
