In a recent Twitter/X post, Newtype revealed the cover of its magazine for its November issue, which will be on sale on October 10, dedicated almost entirely to Ranma 1/2, which has just released its remake. In it we see an illustration featuring the main characters, Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo, the interesting thing about this image is how it captures the essence of the remake, showing them with the updated visual style of the 2024 animation.

The cover has caused great excitement on social media, with thousands of fans commenting on the design and character selection. Although what has really generated conversation is the comparison with the Newtype cover published in November 1991, which also featured Ranma 1/2 as the main character, but in a very different way, as in this one we see Ranma in his two versions, male and female, which alternate due to the unique nature of the character.

Unlike the original cover, which merely showed Ranma in this form, the current 2024 cover features Ranma in his male form, but accompanied by Akane Tendo, which shows a difference between the two covers. This change not only reflects the evolution of the series, but also highlights the remake’s emphasis on the relationship between Ranma and Akane, which is shown as one of the key points of the new adaptation. In this sense, the current cover of Newtype seems to underline the relevance of this bond, with the animation style completely revamped.

In addition to the cover story, the November 2024 issue of Newtype will feature a series of interviews with staff and cast members of the Ranma 1/2 remake, which promises to give readers a deeper insight into the process of creating this project. These interviews are an opportunity to learn details about the production, the work behind the new animation and how the creators have approached adapting Ranma 1/2 for a new generation of viewers.

As if that weren’t enough, the November issue of Newtype will be accompanied by an attractive double-sided poster in B2 format, which will include an image of Ranma soaking in water, one of the series’ most iconic and recurring moments. This detail is not only a nod to long-time fans, but also recalls the more comical and characteristic situations of the original anime, in which Ranma’s gender changes were triggered by water.
