Shonen Jump manga that most disappointed Japanese fans
Through Kobunsha’s jisin website, a comprehensive survey ranking was published to determine which Shonen Jump manga left a negative impression upon completion. The survey was conducted online using Cross Marketing QiQUMO’s self-survey tool, involving 500 people in the age range of 30 to 40. This sample allows for a focused analysis of the opinion of an audience who have grown up with Shonen Jump manga, and have had enough time to critically evaluate their endings.
The aim of this survey was to identify those titles published after 2014 by Shonen Jump that, in the opinion of the respondents, presented unsatisfactory endings: the ranking published on the Kobunsha website, ranks the Shonen Jump manga that concluded in an unsatisfactory manner. The first place is the one with the most votes and that according to the respondents is the one with the worst ending, the page revealed a short list of the most voted, where it shows those Shonen Jump manga that according to the Japanese have an ending that was very unsatisfactory and that we share below:
Kochikame: Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo (41 votes)
This manga follows the comic adventures of police officer Ryotsu Kankichi in the neighborhood of Katsushika, Tokyo. The story, as the name suggests, focuses on the adventures and misadventures of a police station where we will meet a series of characters, and the comic moments that are experienced. Although apparently the outcome of the play was bad enough for it to be on this list.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) (37 votes)
The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young man who becomes a demon hunter after the attack his family suffered, where his younger sister Nezuko is now a demon, now embarks on a journey to return his sister to her human form. On the other hand, the ending left the manga readers more than unsatisfied, being that the anime fans will also experience this ending with the passing of time and the different formats in which this work will be released.
BLEACHÂ (30 votes)
Bleach narrates the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who is able to see, hear and talk to spirits, one day he meets a girl who belongs to a group called shinigami (god of death) and must protect the living from evil spirits, this encounter leads to Ichigo also becoming a shinigami. Being such an emblematic work, fans expected a closure much more in line with everything that happened, something they did not get to see in the manga published in the Shonen Jump.
The Promised Neverland (Yakusoku no Neverland) (22 votes)
This manga follows a group of orphaned children, who live happily in what seems to be an orphanage, however, one day the protagonists discover a dark secret about their orphanage, as a result of discovering the secret, they decide to devise a plan to escape the cruel terrible fate that awaits them. But apparently its outcome was not as expected and it entered the list as one of the top Shonen Jump manga with a bad ending.
Gintama (21 votes)
The story of Gintama follows Gintoki Sakata, a lazy, candy-loving samurai, along with his friends Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura, as they live adventures in an alternate Edo era where samurai coexist with aliens and futuristic technologies. And although the work, both in anime and manga format, has many fans, it seems that many have been dissatisfied with the ending seen in the latter medium.
Toriko (20 votes)
Toriko, a legendary gourmet hunter, searches for the world’s rarest and most delicious ingredients to create the ultimate feast. Accompanied by his companions, Toriko faces gigantic beasts and dangerous obstacles in his culinary quest, although his end was not as expected and that is why he is part of this top by the Japanese public in a position of the highest.
Nisekoi (17 votes)
This romantic manga revolves around Raku Ichijou a student, who has a necklace with a lock, but who has the key according to a childhood promise, will unite him with his future wife. However, several girls claim to be his fiancée, which leads him to a complicated love situation, even leading him to have a fake love with a classmate, although its ending failed to convince several fans.
NARUTOÂ (17 votes)
The story of Naruto Uzumaki, an orphan ninja who longs for the recognition of his village, strives to become the Hokage, along with his friends Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, Naruto gets involved in conflicts between villages and discovers dark secrets about his past. Undoubtedly this is one of the most impressive and important works that Shonen Jump has, that is why with such magnitude, many were not convinced by the end of the manga.
Food Wars! (Shokugeki no Soma) (14 votes)
It follows Soma Yukihira, a young cook with a natural talent, who manages to enter the Totsuki Culinary Academy, an elite school where students compete in fierce gastronomic duels to demonstrate their culinary skills. Similarly, a portion of respondents found the ending of the play to be a bad one, entering this list, although in this case with few votes.
Kuroko no Basket (13 votes)
The series follows Kuroko Tetsuya, a basketball player with a unique talent for going unnoticed, however, one day he joins the Seirin High School basketball team with the goal of leading them to victory in the Interhigh Tournament.
Chainsaw Man (13 votes)
The story follows Denji, a poor young man who lives with a chainsaw demon named Pochita, one day Denji becomes a human-demon hybrid after a tragic incident, now, as Chainsaw Man, Denji works for the government as a demon hunter. And although the manga still continues to be released weekly, the first part of the plot failed to please everyone, with many, since Denji’s ending, abandoning the work and in this case placing it as one of the worst endings.
The Kobunsha ranking provides valuable insight into how Shonen Jump manga endings and how they can influence the overall perception of a series. The survey reflects the significant impact a conclusion can have on the appreciation of a work and underscores the importance of delivering endings that resonate positively with Shonen Jump fans.
