Prison sentence for anime Youtuber for revealing endings

Anime is a medium that we all enjoy enormously, as much as its adaptations into series, games or merchandise and the mutual interest in discussing with our loved ones about the new chapter of each work in progress. Generally, some of us expose our tastes through social networks, others, through face-to-face conversations or messaging services such as “Discord“. On the other hand, the entertainment media “Youtube” today takes us to a new controversy that went viral in a matter of minutes…

Some time ago, it was officially reported that the user based on the “Youtube” platform called “Shinobu Yoshida”, a resident of Japan, was arrested in Nagoya after uploading videos on the Internet playing multiple popular titles. Among them was the “Steins Gate” visual novel, as well as editing over certain videos of the anime adaptation for the popular “Spy x Family“. And you’re probably wondering how can this be possible?

Apparently, the Sendai district court under the charge of the judge known as “Koichi Nakamura” was in charge of declaring a sentence for the accused who was under arrest. In the statement, the judge said that the anime youtuber in Japan would be sentenced to approximately 2 years in prison if he commits another crime within the next 5 years. In addition, he will have to pay a fine valued at a total of 1 million yen (US$ 6,800) for the damages caused to the companies.

The laws in the country of Japan seem to be highly strict, because at the moment, the damage supposedly caused to the companies is due to the youtuber known as “Shinobu Yoshida” making videos spoiling the ending of the different works mentioned above, without having a special permission. This resulted in a serious copyright infringement that escalated the situation to a great extent after complaints from the companies that have control over the said anime.

Now let’s see the version of the anime youtuber “Shinobu Yoshida” presented during the judgment against him. During his defense in court, the defendant tried to explain that his content posted on the entertainment platform, was nothing more than something he did as a hobby, eager for people to know the content for which he strived to make periodically about the works he enjoyed playing and watching, although unfortunately, he was unaware of the copyright issues he might have.

While the companies involved in the case “Shinobu Yoshida“, the prosecutors of the case mentioned that the anime youtuber knew about his malicious acts, referring to his spoilers of certain works, which ruined the production effort, ruining the overall sales. However, the defendant’s defense claims that they were not grounds to be taken with such seriousness. And fortunately, the situation had a positive resolution, as “Shinobu Yoshida” will not go to prison for the time being.
