Recently an internet user published a very interesting news where he talks about anime and how nowadays it seems to be in crisis due to the massive amount of series that are broadcasted in each new season. And it is not something hard to believe, since in a single anime season we have so many series that it is quite difficult to watch them all and even worse, it is even more complicated that all these series are recognized, many of them pass without shame or glory and are forgotten.
Mass-produced anime is bad for the community
Apparently this “anime crisis” is due to different reasons, one of them is that many fans are not patient and lose interest after a season and waiting a year or more for the next one to come out is boring. Nowadays, people are used to fast and immediate content on platforms, that’s why unlike some years ago where it was common to see series with more than 100 episodes, an example of them can be Dragon Ball or Doraemon, nowadays anime can end after 12 episodes.
That is why very few series nowadays manage to maintain their popularity after two seasons, a clear example of some of them are Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan. Series are now so short that it does not give enough time to create a solid fan base because people are now so changeable that from one moment to another they are already paying attention to something else, that is why popularity tends to decrease, if no one buys their products then companies will not pay attention to them.
This situation also affects the merchandise, imagine that a series skyrockets in popularity and then you start to see different articles of this series, first; many articles are made too fast that affects the quality or even copyright permissions are affected which can take several months.
Second, it is difficult to get original merchandise of our favorite anime series outside Japan. We can get these products thanks to different distributors, but we run the risk of them being more expensive, arriving badly or even being ripped off. In many occasions, after the boom of a series has gone out of fashion to everyone, it is forgotten and we can see how those products made in mass end up in second hand stores at cheaper prices or you can take with these items at double their price because there are not so many anymore.
What this user is trying to tell us is that people get bored quickly, one day they are up to date with their favorite series, but once the “hype” has passed and they turn elsewhere, because later or at the same time they come across news of new series, newly licensed manga or more. Nowadays with social networks the news is immediate and the information we have access to is so big that somehow we feel overwhelmed.
To deal with this situation, this user tells us that the ideal would be to reduce the number of anime that are broadcasted, besides the fact that the series today are designed for an older audience and that is quite strange, because the generation that now watches anime as adults became fans because they watched series as children. So it is quite ironic that this children’s sector is being neglected nowadays.
Another way to deal with this saturation of works is to focus on specific genres that interest them the most, some people also turn to recommendations from friends, online reviews or “best series” lists to help them narrow down their choices. Another strategy is to set time limits for watching anime and not feel the pressure to keep up with all the new series.
Understandably, some people may feel overwhelmed by the number of anime series available. With the growth of the anime industry and the ease of access through streaming platforms like Netflix, the supply of new series has increased significantly in recent years. This abundance can make it difficult for viewers to decide what to watch and can lead to a feeling of saturation.
