Recently, the long-awaited event between the main characters of Oshi no Ko finally happened. And opinions about it have been divided, while some fans celebrate the event, others think it was not the best decision. So one fan decided to take matters into his own hands and create an alternate situation to the events of chapter 143 of the manga, publishing it in a forum where it clearly generated a lot of conversation and diverse opinions about it.
Oshi no Ko’s “northern route” was not to everyone’s liking
As we may recall, what happened in the last moments of chapter 143 of the Oshi no Ko manga, was that Ruby kisses Aqua by surprise, a scene that later changes to the filming of the movie about Ai’s life, with the iconic kiss between the characters of “Ai” and “Kamiki”. Well, in this alternate version made by this user on Reddit, the end of the chapter has some noticeable differences. In the scene where Ruby is about to kiss Aqua, Aqua stops her by telling her, “as a middle-aged man and your brother, I will have to respectfully decline.”
Later, just like in the original Oshi no Ko manga, the scene switches to the filming of the movie, with the difference that the caption “stunt double” is added, followed by this, we see the brothers backstage watching the filming, thus implying that they were not the ones acting out the kissing scene between “Ai” and “Kamiki”. After this, Ruby says “Don’t worry, I’m not mad about the rejection. Loving your idol is what it means to be a fan.” Finally, Ruby tries to persuade Aqua about a sensual scene for the film, which Aqua firmly rejects.
This chapter concludes with a panel of Aqua torn between her past and present personality, saying “I’ve always drawn a thin line between my past life and my present. But perhaps there was never any need for that.” The author of this variable ending comments that this last panel was added to bring emotional closure to the chapter.
Surprisingly, in the comments on the forum where these Oshi no Ko panels were shared, many of the fans were not entirely in agreement with this version of chapter 143. Although there was some praise for the art and how it maintained the essence of the characters, they just thought that omitting the kiss was taking away from the story and that this would make it a generic, emotionless story. One user even made a short analysis commenting that having Aqua reject Ruby was a bit pointless and contradictory to the character.
The manga by Oshi no Ko, has given a lot of talk especially these last few episodes when the so-called “northern route” looked closer and closer and now that it has finally happened it is a topic of conversation among fans of this series.
