Despite being introduced only recently during the Wano arc, there is no doubt that Yamato is one of One Piece‘s most popular characters. However, fans were disappointed when she was not recruited to be part of the Straw Hat Pirates, as many had predicted. But it looks like this is about to change, as the newest chapter of the manga confirms that this Oni girl will be starring in her own adventure.
What will the new Yamato story in One Piece be about?
Chapter 1112 of the One Piece manga has just been released and on the cover of it (Which was translated and colored by @Melody_Star_282 on Twitter) we can see Yamato together with the character Kine’mon. The subtitle of the cover reads “Here, Yamato, I have a favor to ask you”, which implies that the Oni girl will be undertaking her own adventure. In case you didn’t know, this manga has something called “Cover Stories” in which Eiichiro Oda tells us what happened to certain characters after the end of their respective arcs, and he does it in a very creative way: within the first page of each new chapter, over the course of several weekly chapters.
A few weeks ago, we learned that One Piece’s newest “Cover Story” is titled “The Journey Through the Temples of the Oni Girl, Yamato” but this new cover gave us a better idea of what this new adventure might be about. It looks like Kine’mon is asking Yamato for a favor and based on the title, we can assume it will involve exploring the ancient temples of the country of Wano. This sounds quite promising.
Yamato is one of One Piece fans’ favorite waifus, so the whole community is excited to see her back in action. But this new Yamato adventure could involve something even bigger: Not only will she explore the temples of Wano, which could reveal shocking information about the mythology of this country, but it also opens up the possibility of Yamato joining Monkey D. Luffy’s crew in the near (or distant) future.
To understand this, one must take a look at the precedent set by another crew member, Jinbe. This friendly gyojin was a relevant character during the Gyojin Island arc, in which Luffy suggested him to join. However, Jinbe rejected the idea and went on to star in his own “Cover Story”. This was titled “The Lonely Journey of Jinbe, the Sea Knight” and was published between chapters 751 and 785 of One Piece. Some time after the end of his story, Jinbe returned in the Whole Cake Island arc and joined the Straw Hats in Wano.
With this in mind: will Yamato join Luffy’s crew when his “Cover Story” comes to an end? There’s a slim chance, but we’ll have to keep an eye on how this adventure will play out in the One Piece manga over the next few weeks. Beyond that, this is a very fun character, so following his own story will be interesting. It should be clarified that Yamato is a unique character of ambiguous gender, so she can be treated as either him or her.
