One Piece is a popular franchise that has always had a phenomenal and very long story full of great feats and epic battles with a touch of mysteries to solve, as well as having a wide variety of unique and amazing characters like Yamato who once again continues to generate a lot of buzz about their orientation and self-perception.
The color spread of chapter 1084 of the popular manga One Piece featuring some female characters of the franchise, has unleashed a wave of reactions generating a controversial and contentious debate. The cause of all this is the fact that in the panel appears Yamato, a character who usually refers to herself as a man using male pronouns.
The problem is that many fans and others from the LGBTQ+ community do not understand why she appears in this panel or color cover, if the character clearly considers and is considered a man. Because of this incident, now the One Piece fandom are in a pitched battle over the gender identity of the character.
It is not the first time that the character causes great commotion for the same topic, without a doubt it is an eye-catching character and full of many diverse opinions that have managed to divide in certain aspects the fandom of the franchise, to the point of believing the theory that Yamato was a trans character
Here are some comments:
- Yamato considers herself a man, they refer to him as a man, but he is present in this cover. My conclusion: YAMATO is a chad and a saint among women
- People are crazy. God, how I hate many of the One Piece fandom, mainly the “fans” of Yamato. The chick thought she was Oden, that’s all. In fact, what is that about her behaving like a man? xD The only thing she did was behave like herself and say “I’m Oden”
- Repeating the discussion about their gender for the nineteenth time as always
- This fandom also has progressives nothing new… Yamato identifies as a man to keep Oden’s legacy, but biologically she will always remain WOMAN, and she knows it
- The trans community never ceases to amuse me. And I don’t even like One Piece for a completely different reason
- I was very surprised in my day to get on Twitter and see a lot of people saying that Yamato was trans. She only said that she was Oden, nothing more. Sometimes I wonder if we really all see the same work
- Everyone has their opinions and I have seen a bit of both sides Personally I think Oda is a bit cowardly in not putting Kiku and not following through with the idea that Yamato by wanting to be Oden has to identify as a man
- It seems that there are people who still do not understand what gender fluidity is, it is a very different thing with trans people. Likewise Hange in the manga is one of those characters
- How retarded have become the fans of one piece how I wish to go back to when one piece was not popular and teenagers with pronouns in their bios did not exist
It should be noted that in the work of One Piece there is great diversity in many of its characters that touch on many topics about gender or orientation, practically it is impressive the repeated discussions or debates focused on a single character, which makes it an incomprehensible and meaningless fact.
The manga One Piece, written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, began its publication in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since July 1997. The manga has 103 compiled volumes published in total, and a few days ago it was reported that the work surpassed 500 million copies in circulation.
On October 20th 1999, the manga One Piece would premiere an anime adaptation that at this moment is still airing and consists of 14 movies, different OVAS and specials. The animation studio Toei Animation is in charge of producing the anime under the direction of Konosuke Uda.
