Netflix has excited One Piece fans with the official announcement that season 2 of the live action series has begun filming. And to continue increasing the hype of fans who already want this new season to premiere, through its official Twitter/X account, @Netflix, the platform revealed some details about the beginning of this new epic adventure that awaits our favorite pirates.
Netflix begins filming of season 2 of One Piece live action
The excitement among One Piece fans has reached new heights, as Netflix announced that the long-awaited season 2 of the live action series is currently being filmed. In a post on the streaming platform’s Latin American version of its Twitter/X account, @NetflixLAT, it was revealed that the Straw Hats have set sail once again, this time from the iconic deck of the Going Merry.
The video posted accompanying the announcement shows the main cast in action, starting with Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu playing Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd bringing Nami to life, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. All of them were captured on their journey to Cape Town, South Africa, where a significant part of the filming will take place.
The choice of Cape Town is not only because of the vast and diverse African landscape, but because of Netflix’s commitment to delivering an authentic visual and narrative experience for One Piece fans. The production aims to capture the essence of the grand and epic adventure that has defined the series over the years, while maintaining fidelity to the characters and plot so that longtime fans as well as newcomers to the world of One Piece can experience an exciting story.
The One Piece live-action series on Netflix is the brainchild of renowned screenwriters Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, who, under the supervision of Eiichiro Oda himself (creator of the manga) have brought to life the adventures of Luffy and his Straw Hats. The first season, which premiered on August 31, 2023, was a resounding success with 18.5 million viewers and 140.1 million hours watched, placing it at the top of the charts.
For those unfamiliar with One Piece, it tells the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young dreamer who always wanted to become the King of Pirates. That is why, inspired by his friend Shanks The Redhead, Luffy begins a journey through the East Blue Sea to find the legendary One Piece treasure and claim the title of the most powerful pirate in the world.
During his journey, Luffy will assemble a motley crew, which he will call the Straw Hat Pirates, each with their own skills as well as ambitions. Once they join together, they sail uncharted seas, face dangerous enemies and visit mysterious islands, all while battling the infamous Navy and other rival pirates in the quest for the precious One Piece.
