One Piece: Luffy falls in love with his “waifu” version by Eiichiro Oda

One Piece is one of the most emblematic works in history, delivering an incredible plot that still after so many years does not culminate, but also knew how to give us some of the best characters of popular culture, being its protagonist Monkey D. Luffy the most representative face of all. That is why new figures are constantly being released for sale, but the one that was presented a few days ago surprised for several reasons, first of all by showing Luffy in his “waifu” version and secondly because this design is original by Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka creator of the entire One Piece universe.

This new One Piece figure shows Monkey D. Luffy in his “waifu” version

A few days ago One Piece celebrated a new anniversary of the manga, more precisely the number 27, being that as part of this a special publication was shared from the official Twitter/X account belonging to the franchise of Eiichiro Oda where the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy is shown. But what surprised many is that this is a new special figure, it shows us Luffy in his female version, which is also an original design by Oda himself, accompanied in turn by another figure of the young man in another of the designs made by the mangaka.

As can be seen in the image, this “waifu” version of Luffy adds different items of clothing that also maintain the One Piece protagonist’s name, being that the most remarkable thing is the palette of red, blue and yellow colors that are still present. Although since there was a change of gender, some changes had to be made in the clothes, such as the original jeans now become much shorter or Luffy’s open shirt now becomes a sleeveless shirt closed in the center so as not to show too much.

In addition to this “waifu” version, which was the one that made One Piece fans fall in love with the manga, there is another one where we can see Luffy with his original style, although with some changes in his original facial features by Eiichiro Oda himself, as both versions of the main character have already been seen in the past. The first one, in “waifu” mode, could be seen in one of the special issues where the mangaka answered questions from fans known as SBS, in this case that of volume 56 of the manga, while the second one is one of the many versions used by Oda throughout these SBS.

Both figures will be part of the collection called “One Piece World Collectable Figures” which can be purchased through the Weekly Shonen Jump, being that all the details to buy it can be seen in the latest version of this, so the price is yet to be known when the version of this week’s magazine is released. Finally, it is not known if in the future the figures will be available for purchase in specialized stores, so we will have to wait for a special confirmation from Weekly Shonen Jump for these incredible collectibles to reach a much wider audience.
