The highly anticipated One Piece Live-Action series has kept fans on their toes since its release on Netflix, and despite the episodes being released together, the conversation around it hasn’t slowed down in the slightest. According to the website TVgroove, many fans who have been following the series on screen felt a special chemistry between the actors who play Zoro and Nami, Mackenyu and Emily Rudd, respectively. From the scenes in which they share moments on the boat to those in which they collaborate with Buggy or choose outfits in the mansion, the conversations between these two characters are so friendly that even those viewers who are not fans of the original material began to encourage the possibility of a future romance…

But this is where Eiichiro Oda enters, the original creator of One Piece, comes in to disappoint fans who were expecting a romantic twist in the plot. According to Steven Maeda, the co-producer of the series, it looks like things will probably stay in the realm of friendship.

One of the conditions Oda imposed to allow the adaptation by Netflix was a strict “ban on romance” among the cast members. Oda was deeply involved in the production and set certain rules, and the ban on romance is one of them.

This is not new from the One Piece author, as Oda had previously responded to the manga’s fans years ago, making it clear that there would never be romances between the Straw Hat crew members. Nami will not have a romantic relationship with Luffy, Zoro or Sanji, and this decision is maintained even in the Live-Action adaptation.

All of this shows the dedication and passion that Oda has for his work, One Piece, and the importance of respecting his decisions in this new presentation of his beloved creation, which has captivated fans around the world. The series will continue its journey, without romance, but with all the adventure and excitement that fans have come to expect.
