Nintendo announces The Legend of Zelda Live Action Movie

After the immeasurable success of the recent Super Mario Bros movie, everyone was waiting for Nintendo to adapt more games to the big screen, and we were sure that The Legend of Zelda was going to be next on the list. But no one saw this announcement coming so quickly, but the Big N just surprised us with the confirmation that a The Legend of Zelda movie is already in production. However, and unlike the Super Mario Bros film, it will not be animated, but will be in Live Action with real actors. Here we tell you everything we know so far about this ambitious new project.

Nintendo confirms The Legend of Zelda movie is coming!

The surprise announcement was made via Nintendo’s official Twitter account, with a message from Shigeru Miyamoto himself: “This is Miyamoto-san. I was working on The Legend of Zelda Live Action movie for many years, with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many successful films. I asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and now we have officially started the development of the film, with Nintendo involved in its production. It will take some time until it is complete, but I hope you look forward to seeing it,” reads the statement from the famous creator of Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, etc.

It should be clarified that Avi Arad is a famous producer who has been responsible for basically all Spider-Man movies, both good and bad. He is part of Sony Pictures Entertainment so yes, Nintendo also confirmed that the same company will finance at least 50% of The Legend of Zelda movie. This was an unexpected decision, as many thought that Nintendo was going to work exclusively with Universal Studios, who were responsible for the Super Mario Bros. movie. On the other hand, the director of the film will be Wes Ball, known for directing the Maze Runner saga and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which will be released next year.

As Shigeru Miyamoto said, The Legend of Zelda movie still has no official release date, so we will surely have to wait for a long time until we receive more information. However, this left fans speculating about a lot of aspects: What game will the plot be based on? Which characters will appear? Who will be the actors chosen to play them? Why did Nintendo opt for Live Action, instead of making an animated film? Although we can assume that the more realistic style of this fantasy franchise will translate better to a world with real people, similar to sagas like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

The sudden announcement, along with the unexpected change of studio and producer, took fans by surprise who, as exciting as a The Legend of Zelda movie sounds, have their doubts about it. However, many also doubted the quality of the Super Mario Bros movie when it was announced and ended up being very well received. So you never know what Nintendo’s decision might turn out to be.
