Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins) offers us too many unknowns about the actions of the characters. A post has been created on social networks, more specifically on Facebook, where there are many users wondering if the character of Merlin is one of the worst of the series because of his not at all serious attitude for a love of 3000 years ago.
Merlin’s unrequited love in Nanatsu no Taizai comes under fire for immature actions
It has been presented on the social network Facebook by a post on a page that introduces us again the theme of Merlin and his infatuation for Meliodas. Recall that at a certain point, 3000 years before the events of the present, Meliodas saves Merlin’s life in the midst of his escape, causing her to fall madly in love with him. Such an event would mark a turning point in the series, causing the same magician to divert her actions to a search for unrequited love, taking with her the sin of pride, Escanor.
Users on the social network did not wait to make their comments, directing their anger towards this character: “Merlin is the most intelligent character of the 7 deadly sins, but the most immature in love”, “They wasted a character like Escanor for the love of 3000 years ago”, “Escanor did not deserve the kiss that Merlin gave him, it’s like the kiss of Judas”, “It was expected, the Meliodas of 3000 years ago was attractive”. Many agree that Merlin is a somewhat unbearable character, with very irrational decisions.
Now focusing on the sin of pride, Escanor, following his departure and words to his beloved, as the saddest unrequited love of his time. This scene caused much of the fandom to hate the mage for her coldness, although her kiss was out of consideration for the lion of the seven deadly sins, it was seen by many as an act worthy of Judas. Despite enjoying incredible fame at the time of its release, Nanatsu no Taizai fell into oblivion like many series that decayed into the abyss, this type of events occur constantly, something we have detailed in this note.
Merlin is a character marked as the sin of Gluttony, this being defined by wanting more than what one already has, more than what is necessary, being tenacity and perseverance one of those qualities. That could explain his feisty idea of having a love for more than 3000 years, even trying to intervene in Elizabeth. Merlin is a most powerful character because of his magical knowledge that has reached an unthinkable level, his beauty is also to be admired.
Love can be the worst enemy of the strongest, it can be the worst curse (reference), something we have seen in this scene again and again. Merlin is not the only one of those who have left aside their goals for a person, there are too many characters who have lost their lives for love, being the worldwide Jujutsu Kaisen a living image of this kind of scenes. Is love bad, no, it just depends on the character, it will have a different result.
The story of Nanatsu no Taizai, on the other hand, begins in the kingdom of Lyonese, where the 7 deadly sins lived as part of the royal guard, an elite force that keeps the peace. A traitor caused this to change from one side to the other, now being traitors of the kingdom and persecuted with a price on their heads. The story puts us in the shoes of the captain of the seven deadly sins, Meliodas and his goal to reunite his comrades to save the kingdom at the request of one of its princesses, Elizabeth Lionés. What will this journey full of enemies and battles bring in a combination of action and comedy?
