Information about My Hero Academia: Watchmen:
Watchman: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals, also known as My Hero Academia: Watchmen in the West, is a spin-off manga of the My Hero Academia manga that is written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court. The work began its publication in Jump GIGA in August 2016. However, in October of that same year it was transferred to the Shonen Jump+ service of the Shueisha publishing house, place where it ended its serialization in May 2022, counting 15 compilation volumes.
On December 22, 2024, it was announced that the manga My Hero Academia: Watchmen (Watchman: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals) will have its respective anime adaptation.
The manga My Hero Academia: Watchmen has the following description: Living in a superhero society is difficult. Even more so when the spotlight only shines on professional heroes, those legally allowed to use their special powers known as Quirks in public for the greater good.
Kouichi Haimawari grew up aspiring to be a hero, but with a mediocre Quirk as the “slip” that tethers him to the ground, he soon came to the conclusion that he could only admire them from below. Despite this, Kouichi takes satisfaction in using his Quirk to perform everyday good deeds, such as returning lost items and helping the elderly cross the street.
However, Kouichi’s peaceful life takes a turn for the turbulent when he is rescued from an alley fight by the Vigilante, or illegal hero, Knuckleduster. Knuckleduster, who sees Kouichi as a potential hero, enlists his help in discovering the source of a dangerous drug known as Trigger, which boosts the user’s Quirk at the expense of his rationality.
Set in a time before the events of the original story, Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals follows Kouichi as he decides to take on the reputation of a villain and become a Vigilante, operating in the shadow of the law to prevent crimes from surfacing.
